![]() First of all, I never played classic EQ. I've only played EQ for 1 1/2 years starting on 2010, so I am familiar with some of the game but it is SO different that it may be another game.
Secondly, let's say that I find P1999 very rewarding and, at the same time, very frustrating. With that out of the way, here's my opinion about a few things about P1999. - The game is way harder that the current live EQ. Nothing wrong with that, it just is. - It plays completely different from the EQ I know. New EQ is a click-fest where any blue mob can one round kill a caster, you have a million things to activate and plenty of cross-class stuff (rangers have a pushback + root + memblur AA, rogues and monks have mezz... ). - The lack of PoK makes the world way larger. It takes me a looong time to walk from Qeynos to SK, even with my bard and Selos. It also makes it more natural. - Home towns and faction make the world different for each race. You can play different races and enjoy different quests and zones. - The old style graphics are really basic but the animations are a million times more natural than the Luclin ones. Whenever I go back to a server with Luclin chars, I cringe when I see the animations. - Each class plays differently. That is GOOD. - The basics of the game are very simple but also hard to master. - The game is slower and more relaxed than new games. If I make a mistake, I normally have enough time to realise and RUN! It also means that it takes 1 min to kill each mob. - Equipment seems to be more balanced, no need to buy equipment every few levels from the same few zones as everybody else and destroy your old attunable stuff. You need to get stuff from different places. - People are nice and helpful. Of course, I've not played outside of newbie zones but people buff you, help you and answer your questions without calling you a newbie. Someone even gave me 25pp to help me just after seeing me walking around at level 1! I try to reciprocate by buffing or helping any char I see when I'm not doing anything in particular. - The experience penalty is a pain. I won't be playing any hybrids (bard notwithstading, they can compensate for the penalty by killing millions of mobs) until either it is removed or I have maxed out my other chars and I can twink it. - Not having a map is a pain but it does help the immersion. Having to level up sense heading is hell. The compass should work, just like they do in real life [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] - Not having target circles is a bit annoying but I understand that it wasn't there in classic and that it is a requirement to get the red server to play kind of reasonably. - Disappearing when you hide or go invisible is cool and makes way more sense than putting brackets around your name, like Live does. - The lack of AAs makes the game simpler and also makes things more equal. There's nothing worse than getting to a high level in Live and realising that you need 3000+ AA to be able to contribute to a group at top level... an endless grind. I do miss some AAs though (run speed ones... I'd kill for those XD). - It was quite disconcerting seeing my client crash a few times when I tried to create a halfling ranger because they're not supported. There should be a a way to overwrite the race description to list the available classes and display a message saying that an invalid combination would crash the client. - I'm poor and bound to be poor for a lifetime but hey, it's part of the charm of playing here. I'm not a min-maxer so I don't care. - You can kite! I love kiting I hate new games where mobs go back to their spawn point if you take them too far. - Mobs running reduces dot effect by 25%. That SUCKS. - Not having swarm kiting sucks. I really would like to be able to do it. AE kiting may be faster for levelling but it's way less enjoyable. As I said, this is my opinion about a few things, I'm not trying to change anything at all (although getting rid of the exp penalty would rule... I know it's been discussed to death and may only happen after Velious is out but hey, one can dream XD). Feel free to disagree as much as you want [You must be logged in to view images. ![]() I still play live personally. Some things I like on live better than here, some things I like on here better than live.
Give this server inspect buffs, extended target window, chat channels, raid window, guild window and holy shit would it be ballin.

I just think that, despite having the same origin and the same zones, the game has changed so much that you could probably consider it a completely different game. I might go back to playing live with some friends but, for now, P1999 is all I play [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

![]() I enjoyed your post necro. Always cool to see new perspectives on the classic experience. I also enjoy the class separation with regards to skills, more natural feeling world, and the mastering the simple basics that classic EQ had to offer. [You must be logged in to view images. P.S. As for a "compass" working like it would in real life, drop a rusty weapon (or any weapon) on the ground, and the blade will always point north. Good luck!

![]() "- People are nice and helpful."
Just my two cents, this right here is the main reason to play this game. Maybe this server is extra unique in this regard, but my experience with other games has led me to the conclusion that in general, people who play EQ are just nicer. In my short time playing, i've not encountered even ONE jerk. Now I know that I will at some point, but if you play WoW you'll find one in the first 10 minutes.
