Default Mask of Deciever

It's under the ALL / ALL section on the wiki.

Can all class / race use when it's in the inventory? just not wear it?

Only wearable by rogue / bard.

I'm craving that illusion on my ranger.

Guise of Deceiver was the item which could be clicked from inventory by any race / class. This stopped dropping long ago and was replaced by the Mask which is Rogue / Bard only.

Why did SOE nerf stuff like that anyway? Seems kind of dumb to take out something cool like that then add in something like project illusion later. Too bad that scarecrow illusion wasn't classic. That one is hella fun

Having DE illusion would make traveling to neriak much easier, which would make getting coffins and hate stones much easier. why put those items in hard to reach places (an evil city) and then give people an easy ticket to getting them? just an idea, but maybe that was their reasoning for it

I believe it was Verant, masterminds of the original "the Vision," that decided to make it only so bards and rogues could transform with the sneaksy mask of the deceiver. Sony were the please-alls that decided to implement Project Illusion in Planes of Power =)

No, it was a lack of understanding of game mechanics by the developers. Even the guise is BRD/ROG only, but the illusion effect is clickable from inventory. Once people realized you didn't have to be a BRD/ROG to use the illusion, it became much more valuable. So the developers nerfed it so only BRD/ROG could use the illusion, without retroactively removing the ability for people who had already obtained the item.

TL;DR: The DE illusion was always intended for BRD/ROG only, the developers just did a horrible job of initial implementation.

thats also a good theory, but i guess it doesn't explain why items like Shrunken Goblin Skull Earring are all/all and yet must be equipt to click, where as the pre-nerf fungi staff was inventory clickable. i used those examples because they are kunark items. maybe they were just that stupid and couldn't get the coding right the second time around. who knows.

What does that have to do with it? There are items that they intended to be clickable only while equiped and others they intended to be clickable from inventory as well as while equipped. Those two were set as they intended them. They did not intend the mask to be clicked from inventory and did not want it to be set that way. It was an oversight and when they figured it out they patched it by putting a new one in, allowing those that already got one to keep their treasure but have the mob now drop the intended item. They later added the first "bugged" mask to the Shadow Haven casino as they viewed it a "non-harmful bugged legacy item". AKA a legacy item that was such because it was bugged, but could not be used to make the player that possessed it OP in certain situations (Like a Manastone, which were not added to the casino. Although they HAVE since added a new no trade Manastone with the same effect but changed cast/recast, plus by the time you're the level to obtain and use it the effect is no longer anywhere near as OP, in fact it's worthless).

the fungi staff has to do with it b/c its a crazy OP item that was nerfed days after release. if they didnt think that giving anyone the ability to cast 15pt regen on themselves, for free, instantly and indefinately, was op then they were stupid. if they meant it to only be for shaman/druid toons who could already cast that same regen spell, then they messed up the same way it was claimed they messed up when live came out. a ton of classic (pre-kunark) items are inventory clickie and you could say OP (wc cap, cheal scyth, bladestopper, etc), i'm just offering a reason why things like manastone and guise were nerfed, and others weren't. guise wasn't just nerfed b/c it made u look super cool and they couldn't allow that, but guise and manastone were nerfed as fear/hate/sky came out and they realized the advantages those items gave a player with regard to those zones. i think the guise nerf is a bit more lore related, but having to rely on evil toons to buy hate stones and coffins does effect gameplay

Oh yeah it makes you camp in the newbie zone and run in with a level 1 alt. Real killer there, if by killer you mean pointlessly stupid.
