Default Magic Slam?

So I'm a Troll shaman, and relatively new to the server. For 23 levels or so, I had been using a round shield that I looted from a dead Basher. I finally recently got an upgrade to a MAGIC shield, but I was rather disappointed to see that my slam skill is still useless against ghouls, dry bones, etc.

Is this one of the "classic" shortcomings of the game? Or something that might be fixed at some point? Seems like it should not be too tough to check your shield/gloves/shoulder/bracer/whatever slot for the MAGIC flag when you slam a mummy. Maybe it's not classic, but it makes sense...

Slam checks the armor equipped in the shoulder slot to determine if an attack is magical. Bash checks the shield/secondary slot. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Edit: also, as a Shaman, your slams will never do more than one point of damage. For Warriors and Shadow Knights, as you level your bash skill, it does more damage and so does slam. But your slam acts like you have zero skill in bash (which you do). So while it's very useful for attempting to interrupt spellcasters, it never adds any significant damage.

If you are desperate for a shoulder slot magic item "a froglok ____" mobs have a chance of dropping netted or woven shoulders which are classified as magic. Or you can get a number of alternatives that actually have stats, but may cost you a few plat.

What he says. Forget about Slam as a Shaman. Odds of a interrupt are slim in my opinion.

Thanks for setting me straight - I figured it would check my shield slot first (only).

But forget about Slam? Whatever... it's a great tool. Is it a good idea to use it when toe-to-toe with a heavy-hitter? No. But at low levels it's welcome DPS and comes in handy for runners, interrupting heals/gate... I love it.

Yup. A 50% chance of interrupting a cast, or stunning a runner, is better than 0%. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Plus, every time I stun a mob with slam, I get to say, "Should have rolled Ogre, BITCH!" in my best Jesse Pinkman voice.
