Default Enchanter AC Test

I tanked the foreman in OT (BDA was there for hammers and they were really nervous that I would kill him with the ROA [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]) with Qelen BP healing me for 3-4 minutes at a shot. The data is still quite noisy but I think its enough to make some reasonable estimates.

AC: 515 67.0/swing Hit: 72% Hits: Max: 23.3% Min: 10.3% Avg: 93 AvgDI: 86
AC: 593 68.8/swing Hit: 74% Hits: Max: 20.5% Min: 9.4% Avg: 93 AvgDI: 87
AC: 680 62.3/swing Hit: 70% Hits: Max: 19.6% Min: 7.8% Avg: 89 AvgDI: 81
AC: 702 60.0/swing Hit: 69% Hits: Max: 18.8% Min: 14.1% Avg: 87 AvgDI: 84

515->702: +11.7% effective HP
515->680: +7.5% effective HP
515->593: -2.6% effective HP
593->702: +14.7% effective HP
593->680: +11.0% effective HP
680->702: +3.8% effective HP

Average: +108AC -> 7.65% effective HP, 1AC = 0.07% extra HP

Loraen@ 1750HP + Bedlam 350 + Rune V 700 = 2800HP * 0.0007 = 1.98

Therefore 1AC = 2.0 HP in raw survivability, but this is displayed AC not item AC, and I get about a 1.2 ratio between item/displayed AC which would increase this number to 2.4. In addition AC has a few other benefits like more efficient use of runes/bedlams, more bash misses, and getting effectively better HP regen. So based on this (and assuming I haven't made any mistakes) . . .

TL;DR: 1AC = 2.4-3.0HP for intelligence casters at L60 depending on your preferences.

Shield AC allows you to break your class's AC cap, which is not represented in this data.

My understanding is that the whole shield ac thing came later during the Great Monk Nerf, and no int casters will get close to the raw AC cap (its like 400 or something; after the Great Monk Nerf it plummeted to ~120). The real problem is the retarded itemization of Velious with 40AC 100hp/mana all/all items which really unbalanced supposedly fragile classes relative to supposedly tanky classes.

According to this, if I managed to pick up 6-7 of those 30AC NToV items (not likely) and a Sal'Varae's Robe, Orb of the Infinite Void etc. I might actually reach that cap. 300 worn ac would be 350 raw AC which would put me at about 1000 [You must be logged in to view images. The really nutty thing about this test is that I could MT for any group in sebilis with Qelen healing me with that Donals BP and using the RoA/Tash for aggro. I never came close to dying.

Awesome.

Given that I have no underlying understanding of the mechanics behind AC beyond some fairly broad principles (there is an ac cap, hard or soft at some point, and buffs shields ignore it maybe) I really had no idea if AC was helping me at all. My gut feeling was that caster AC would be capped so low that ac gear was mostly a waste over a cap I'd already hit.

It is nice to know I was wrong [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
