Default New (very hopeful) Player

Hey guys. Old EQ fan here. Just tried another shot at the live servers... level 100....... I just can't. But I want to play the game again, I want lamentations to be cool and worth a few K, I want to kill old world dragons again. I don't want to grind for 12 months to start getting raid gear. Not that I even care about raid gear, but it takes waaaay to long to catch up to the main stream community now and I hate it.

That said, I'm dying to jump back in to the game. I would like a helping hand. I remember the first character in EQ, grinding for bags and spells and your first fine steel. Is there anyone who can spare enough in the way of a few bags and spell plat? I'm going to restart my necro I believe, may be a wiz or mag. Def a caster for first char, and it'd be nice just to grind with spells in hand and not sell every damn beetle eye and spider hair to inch my way through the levels again.

I don't want gear, don't want a twink, just something to let me grind and have spells. I want to be honest, I don't know if I'm going to be the next up and coming raider, but I hope to be. I miss this game soooo much and I can't wait to log in. Dusting off Titanium now.

Also, to every programmer who did this, I thank you all. I watched this project for years many years ago, last I checked there was a big hang up with elevator mechanics. So glad to see a community here, every "new player" thread and guild opening thread gives me hope. Thank you all a million times, even if I only get to level 8.

Default welcome to the server

welcome to the server! I started up about 3 weeks ago coming from the newest round of TLP servers and It's the most fun I've had in months. I will shoot you a PM and see if we can get you started up with some spell money etc.

If you're starting any of those classes, Sowel, you really don't even need pp for bags or spells. I mean, you only need like 2 spells per level as a wiz or mage, maybe 3 as a necro up until 16+. You'll get the money to buy a backpack by the time you make level 3, just from selling rusty weapons you'll get off the decaying skeleton you should be hunting (you may even get packs off of them or little humanoid monsters).

Ahh, starting from scratch. It's so fun earning that first backpack, buying your first non-rusty weapon, watching a highest-level level 8 pet kill a wisp who drops a GLS. Good stuff!

Ah, but scrounging every silver at the beginning is part of the fun. It is for me anyway. I've been on the server a couple months, just hit 35, money is just becoming comfortable now, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

When it's really desperate at the very beginning, doing bard mail quests can really help. Felwithe->Kelethin is probably the best, but I did every one I could find, just in the normal course of visiting cities, and I'd say I got 15pp total from it. It definitely paid for spells and starting bags.

fun part is that depending on your starting area, it defines how easy you can afford anything...

greater faydark : kill wasps, and hope for their sack thingy... sells for 5gold or such..
butcherblock : lots of skeletons, kill them and hope they drop the cracked staff... worth over 1 plat. Basically any skelly with a staff, is holding the cracked one. In the old days, it was more often a 1 gold 2hb staff, with the cracked being the rare one. But here it's the only one it drops
Field of bone : some skeletons walk around with a shield. That's also 1pp+ drop. They do not drop cracked staffs there.
Nektulos : farm spiderlings and skeletons. a full stack of spiderling silk sells for 20+ pp and a full stack of skeleton chips sells for 5-10pp
