Research skill stuck

Hi, I have a research skill of 17, as shown by my trainer, but in my skill list the value is stuck at 5 and is in red. Does anyone know what it means?

My guess is that it's level-capped, so you would have to level up to get a higher skill.

I never knew research was level capped. It's true I'm only lvl16, but this means i can research zero spell at lvl16? that doesn't sound right

research. It starts at a specific level. Look at the P99 wiki for all this info under spell research. What class are you and we can address your questions better?

You can do research at level 16, but you won't be able to raise your skill to the trivial level skill for level 16 spells. So expect some failures !

Each level you earn will raise your skill cap by 5.

The fact that your skill is at 17 right now is because you unlocked the skill at level 17 and when you unlock a skill, it often gets as high as your level when you unlock it.
