Default Name and Shame game

Yes or no?

I do feel that those that steal from their friends and guildies should be outted.

Seeing Ambrotos step up and call them out really made me have more faith in the GM's here.

In a game that revolves around social networking, naming and shaming is appropriate and desirable.

Whether it's effective is another issue.

I really didn't out anyone tho. People pass around their account information like it's candy. So I can pull up a trade log between two people to find out where the item went. It doesn't really mean whoever got the item off the other account is indeed that person. Someone else could have used their friend's account to steal someone else's stuff.

It is a huge drain to find this stuff out. Personally account selling, and stealing stuff should be perma ban. How and who could give that much time just to invest in finding out these people, I don't know. Giving your account information out, and finding out your best internet friend just took all your stuff should fall under tough shit section and the thief banned if caught and no items are returned.

If some high level and decked out in good gear poofs from the game without saying goodbye to their guild or friends it's a pretty good indication of what happened.

its so nice to see a GM say they think account selling should be a permaban, that is exactly how i feel. i think it would solve a lot of issues. if people couldnt post in ec or on forums selling accounts, less would get sold even if some were still getting sold illegally.

any chance this is a possibility of happening?

I think so. Back in the day there was always a stickied blacklist thread at the top of one of the Brell forum sites. I myself (especially when I played on Rallos but even on blue servers) kept a black list. I also kept a list of those people who helped me out and I would go out of my way to help them if I saw them looking for something I could assist with. Having a level 65 cleric at the time I was in that position a lot.

People on the blacklist either got a no to rezzes or paid heavily in plat for them. Those who had helped me out coming up I would go to great lengths to get their corpse and rez them.

Seems like a small thing, but when you share your list with your guild and vice versa it starts to have an impact on people who are jackasses. When it's shared with the server it takes it even further.

I don't know how it was on other servers but if you screwed your rep on Brell you might as well reroll at that point. Sadly they implemented name changes somewhere along the way.

How effectively can a blacklist or permaban be when someone can just recreate a new account? Then there's the whole quagmire that is IP bans that has been discussed ad nauseum on this forum...

I'd say the effectiveness comes from people not wanting to continue starting over from scratch. If people are diligent and actually want to keep "those people" from being able to do what they do, they won't be able to reroll and continue to maintain their old contacts because hopefully one of those contacts will out the new character. And so on and so forth.

I'd imagine the people most notorious for this kind of behaviour (if the "outings" on the forum are to be believed) will help that person get their stuff back.

And besides, the people who are getting banned likely have nothing better to do than play EQ at work or don't even work to begin with, so rerolling is what, a couple week setback dpeending on class?
