Default Old School Overthere Faction

For anyone doing the Overthere Faction quest by killing Sarnak Berserkers, I wanted to pass on some useful info.

My Ogre Shaman had a starting faction of Apprehensive towards VenrilSathir.

After collecting and turning in 44 Sarnak War Braids, I became Indifferent.

After collecting and turning in an additonal 80 Sarnak War Braids, I became Amiable.

Thus it takes a total 124 Sarnak War Braids to get to Amiable from starting faction point for an evil assuming no faction losses prior to starting the quest.

This info probably already exists in these forums, but not neatly and ya really have to search hard to find accurate parts of it. This tidies it up for the next person looking. Plus I just confirmed the numbers with my own experience and wanted to share.

Enjoy.

P.S. Its a long quest. Rich players might as well pay for the charm. On the other hand, my Ogre leveled from 34 to 37 in the time collecting Braids. So a smart, up and coming, player without a lot of cash could kill two birds with one stone by questing and exping instead of charming the Undead Foreman.

I forgot to mention this message is for the uninitiated. Constructive comments only please.

For those looking for this info under different search terms...

This faction quest leads to the following reward:

Worker Sledgemallet = OT Hammer

This is an item that allows you to gate to Overthere at levels 50+ by simply proc'ing off any melee mob / dueling PC.

If you are new to EQ or P99, you will want this item

And if my memory is right killing mobs in Howling Stones kills your faction in OT. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] Kind of crazy since they are side by side zones.

Yes, but based on the OP's story, he will have his OT hammer the moment he dings 50, which is before it would be safe to level in HS anyway. And being on good terms with the outpost is only a convenience thing besides getting the hammer, since you can still bank even if KoS and the merchants are shitty greedy mofos anyways.

The problem is being higher level and needing to do the hammer but also needing to group in zones that destroy your faction for it. My cleric has already taken a few hits, and I should do the factioning before doing anything else....Instead I just play alts. LOL

How do you bank KOS, btw?

To the OP...Grats on getting that out of the way early.

You can stand on the outside of the bank but near the bankers and use camera angles or bind sight or stalking probes to right click the bankers, or just go inside the bank at night when the guard isn't in there.

If you are already high level and don't want to do the tedious collecting quest spend the 5k or befriend someone with Puppet Strings.

This info was designed for new players that don't have that kind of cash, but are looking for insight on how to spend their time wisely getting important items.

If a character is in its 30s and leveling in OT and has no access to 5000plat yet since its a first character, they would be wise to start collecting Braids from Berserker's and bugging the zone/group for the drops while exping in OT.

After a few levels, once you get to amiable with VenrilSathir you will be able to get the OT hammer far before it is able to proc.

My Ogre Shaman is level 37 and has his OT hammer in the bank waiting til he levels to 50.

But it also means I don't have to worry about not hunting in HS, Karnor's, DL, or Kaesora for fear of VenrilSathir faction losses once I get to the appropriate levels for those dungeons. With the quest already completed I can fight in any dungeon I please. Of course doing so would tank my VS faction again, but as Tecmos mentioned... who cares?
