Default Hint/Tip/Fact Compilation

What's a hint/tip/fact you wish you knew day 1 of starting P1999, or a random tip that you wish to share with everyone else.

Example: My buddy didn't know you could re-arrange your spell book by right clicking a spell and then again right clicking where you want it to be.

Example2: I forgot that you could Alt+Click a stack of 20 items to automatically pick up 1 item from that stack.

After realizing both of these facts we were kicking ourselves for forgetting. I know there's a lot of great information on the forums and P1999 wiki but what are some 'common sense' or 'basic' things that not everyone knows? If this thread gets going I can try to compile these pro tips into another guide for the wiki.

So what else are some pro EQ tips?!?

There is a key to toggle between your last two targets. By default it is unbound but you can assign it on the "keys" tab of the options menu.

As an enchanter, this changed my life way back when I learned it.

My personal favorite: Make two macros, one is called "HCon" and one is called "HCoff", this is what is in them.
/hidec is short for /hidecorpse, you don't have to type the whole command, a lot like how you can /gu for /guild chat or just / instead of typing /who.

HCon (hidecorpse on)
/hidec on
/hidec looted

HCoff (hidecorpse off)
/hidec off
/hidec looted

What this basically does, when you click HCOn when you want to hide a bunch of unnecessary corpse spam, with the added benefit of any future looted corpses will be automatically hidden once they are looted.
Now sometimes you accidentally get up from a corpse and you missed something, that is when you click HCoff, it brings all the corpses back, but auto-types the second line again, so that as you loot through the corpses they auto-hide after you check them. It gets rid of a type of spam most people don't even know they have, and a corpse is never missed.

Other stuff
/chatfontsize 1-5

/toggleinspect on/off

(for large guilds like KWSN) guild macro to avoid "too many players" result, make a multi-line macro
/who all guild 1 10
/who all guild 10 30
/who all guild 40 60

i'll edit as they come to me, i love shortcuts

edit1: 10/16
oh, I just remembered. It was a while before I realized but if you dig through hotkeys, you can bind a key to open all bags.. i think i was playing here for over two years before i discovered that.

edit: 10/17
/yell, or /y -- announces a player yells for help, and gives a direction, works up to 30 meters or so? decent range if others are in the area
more people should macro this, especially at lower levels, for help.. and for nostalgia's sake!
i can recall running out of mana on my lvl 6 wizard with root about to break, running down the path in EC near the desert with no sow /yelling left and right, haha

Summation of all the posts below me (Feel free to steal this OP)

/rt or /rtarget targets the last person to send you a tell, great for buff requests
-Bohab

Get some summoned bags, before you log off have someone kill you in a duel. Next play session, loot corpse and you have summoned bags without them poofing. This would also apply to anything summoned or no rent.
-eqravenprince

New Clerics, Shamans, etc can spam level 1 buffs like Courage & Inner Fire to heal, as they are more mana efficient than the first heals.
-Lowlife

Use /autoinventory with a forage macro

Auto-forage macro: (Assumes Forage is #4 on ability page of Actions window):
/pause 6,/doability 4
/autoinventory
-fadetree

Make a sense heading macro, bind a movement hot-key to trigger it such as W, A, S, or D, easy skill-ups!
-fadetree

PAGE TWO

The big hollow tree in Blackburrow as you zone in from Qeynos Hills.. don't walk into it.
-fadetree

If you're far from a bank, but have access to a vendor, and have too much copper and silver, don't destroy it. Instead, buy something (anything really, as long as it costs a gold or more, but gems work best) from a merchant and then sell that item back. You'll lose some money on the transaction, but not as much as if you just destroyed all the copper/silver.

You can make multiple chat windows to separate your combat spam and your chat. If you're a caster, you might want to make a third one to track your own spells (so you can easily tell whether they landed or not in combat).
-loramin

Being chased without SoW? Strafe! It increases your speed just enough to get away without being hit.
-Trazic

^ strafing is referring to holding right click and holding 'W and D' or 'W and A', you can gain a significant lead on a mob over a long chase

My biggest three are probably lev trick, getting through locked doors with illusions and stalking probes, and being able to corpse lore items (and closely tied to this one, being able to kill yourself with dots+zone/gate without losing xp).
-Tecmos Deception

For Dark Elves: Hunting in Crushbone lowers the Indigo Brotherhood faction, which is the dark elf warrior guild.. being a dark elf you want to be careful and only hunt in CB if you are certain you never need to interact with that guild. Best to just hunt elsewhere.
-Cribanox

Wish i had originally been smart enough to create 1 character per account, and one account per emu account, so when I sold my account back in the day I didnt have to give up characters when really all I wanted to do was sell 1 of them.....

Suppose it doesn't matter anymore though - but I still create only one char per account, but only incase hell freezes over and we can suddenly two box.

Also /q before leaving your empty corpse window if you accidentally loot all items of your corpse, it will leave an empty corpse around without the risk of leaving anything good on it.
-Pringles

PAGE THREE

Using the spell Evacuate: (Zone) while in that zone will take you to the safe spot in that zone, just like the spell evacuate or succor. Not sure what other zones it is useful for, but if you use the L49 wiz spell Evacuate: West while in West Karana it will take you to the Qeynos Hills zoneline. Nice if you don't want mana loss or for those wizards who are not 57 yet.
-Lojik

If you push track [This is only with the current back-to-original-pro99-version] any mobs on top of track are freshly spawned. For example you kill Emp. Crush, run around til he re-pops, if he is most recent mob to spawn he'll be at top of track until another mob spawns] this goes to show you what all has be cleared and re-popped lately.

Never tested it here, don't particularly care for it being on a PvP server and rogues chasing you, but when an NPC was chasing you and you'd spin in circles[As in look left/right which makes you spin in place.. simple as that], you would regain your concentration from what I saw 100% of time. Myself and a human druid I cant think of at the time tested this on Sullon Zek, believe he even got a Dev to come in and confirm it all though it was unintentional.

If someone is anon you can see what guild they're in or not in, I use this on anon players for red99 all the time and its been in on live since day 1. For example I am Andain, you go "/guildstatus Andain" and it'll tell what guild they're in as well as their rank.

There is a zone line from Lake of Ill Omen to Warslick woods in the goblin cave off to the right when facing Frontier Mountains in Lake of Ill Omen. This surprisingly well hidden zone line is not known, due to its not on any old classic maps. Maybe someone can chime in and tell if its not on the newer Luclin/Pop maps that you could look at with backspace?

Somewhere in Neriak I don't recall where, there is a fire pot you can click that drops you in Lesser Faydark at the DE camp near Mistmoore, you use to be able to click back to Neriak. I know that in 2009 devs removed the ability to click back - Possibly the ability to click down too? I believe its an ancient classic setting though!

Pretty simple, but just like real life the simple things go unnoticed. If you have Sneak [Such as any Halfling since its a racial identity] you can use Sneak then vendor with a merchant since your Indifferent when you're behind them. Also in my personal opinion why Halfling Druids are the best Druid race, ya you get +10% exp bonus but you can also sneak behind undead. Show me a wood elf druid that can get down to Master Yael right behind a Halfling. You gotta time roamers, be sneaky and also hope for a couple windows of opportunity but very possible.

Paineel guards don't give negative faction [until Luclin] when you kill them, there is no positive or negative faction when killing them. They always drop a brass [I think brass? I'm drunk] shield and sword and up to 3 plat 5 gold. So about 10-13 plat per kill. If you have + faction with them you can farm them and vendor/sell non stop. They start as low level as 18ish - 30ish??

Dylan Starshine [im spelling that wrong] is in HHP. Kill him [hes 7 hours exactly, tested this many times] loot his note, finish his quest and you get a +10 wis +10 mana book, he is level 17 I believe? Rest of the quest is involved in Qeynos and some gold. - Testament of Vaneer. Allakhazam it.

The Undead Cleric who spawns at South end [Near West Commons] who eventually roams down near zone line spawns every 22mins. Every so often he drops a +5wis 1hb mace, level 34 cleric mob good starter item!

I'm tired and need to go to bed, ill add more later.

EDIT/ADD: Was looking at my post to review then looked at comments above. If you loot everything on your corpse and go Oh Shit! And don't push escape, you can /quit, come back and have an empty corpse left to rez, this worked on live to but now that its brought to light, I can see a non-classic nerf come in place. - I died in The Hole going after a named and had to do this to get my rez back in 8/13ish.
-Andain

A bit obvious, but macroing bind wound is one of the more worthwhile ones.

/doability x
/pause 100
/doability x
/pause 100
/doability x

Once you can afford to skill up, there's really no reason not to, it helps with downtime and absolutely saves lives.

Also as an evil character, or someone who doesn't care about Qeynos faction, killing the Millers in QH for fun and profit is a great way to get from ~26-34, with a factionless merchant right around the corner in Surefall you can easily sell that sweet bronze loot.

There's also a wiki someone made called the 6 minute bard diet, which is nice for days when you feel like soloing at a leisurely pace in relative safety by slaughtering a hapless bard every so often. http://wiki.project1999.com/6-Minute_Bard_Diet
-Muleworth

One note about the Dylan Starshine Testament of Vaneer quest - I don't recall what level I did the quest but I remember most of the bandits back in his area were green/light blue. EXCEPT for one roamer that was red who wandered down to Dylan and back away. I remember sweating that out, because the first time I tried to kill Dylan the red one agroed and I had to zone. The higher level roamer should be put there on P99 to make it exciting.
-bulbousaur

used to be able to invis single pulls with an air pet, before the nerf last week
-diplo

PAGE FOUR

shift-clicking automatically chooses the whole stack. alt-left clicking an item pops up the item info (so you don't have to wait w/ the right click method). casting from a sitting position automatically makes you stand up. shift-up / shift-down lets you toggle through your previous chat box commands and tells. F1 targets yourself, F2 first group member, etc.

check out hot keys in the options menu for much more useful stuff (like opening all inventory bags, targeting last person to send you a tell, etc.)

/rewind can get you un-stuck from places like behind that stupid ladder in upper guk leading from the squire to the summoner

"/" is a shortcut for "/who". lots of other shortcuts for classes and names and zones. for example: typing "/ all c 49 60 oa" will give you a list of all un-anonymous clerics 49-60 in the oasis.

also, this one's a bit specific, but bard charm wipes the aggro/hate list on mobs -- excepting, of course, the hate generated from that charm itself. i'm not sure if this works with other class charms, but you can do some pretty cool stuff with this as a bard.
-Antonin Dvorak, 60 Bard

Oh here's one folks. All casters with a knock back should know this.

You can control the direction of the knock back effect present on many DD spells. I'm a paladin and many later stuns have a knock back effect, meaning that you actually move the mob on which you cast a few feet.

The mob is knocked in the direction the caster is facing when the spell lands. As a tank I used this a lot to keep my mob nearest to me. I would be facing the mob, cast a stun with a knock back, turn around to face the other direction, the knock back spell lands and makes the mob go in the direction I am facing (towards my toon), and then I turn back around for more fighting with a closer mob.

When you have half a raid force that can time this, some of the trickier placement raids after the scope of this server, become easier.

It's still useful here for micro placements.
-Lagaidh Smif

When hot keying spells, create macros with two instances of /cast "x". This should help recast after a fizzle. Example:
/cast 3
/cast 3
-Yumyums Inmahtumtums

You can bank through walls. In places like Overthere, you can just run up to the wall and click on the banker from the outside. That way you don't have to deal with KOS mobs on the inside. I suppose this probably works for people in places like NFP too?

Although this was nerfed with the rogue sneak/hide patch and most people didn't know about it, bards could sneak exactly the same way rogues used to be able to. You had to play invis song, click off buff, then get a successful sneak and hide prior to invis buff coming back from song. If it worked, you could walk around invisible to everything except mobs that saw through hide like fire giants. To be even crazier...if you played your lull song while successfully hidden, you could invis pull mobs easily as a bard...you just had to wait until a critical resist.

Apparently, they were a remnant left from Beta.

%t shows your target. so "/g %t is incoming" with Nillipuss targeted would show:

Cyph says to the group, "Nillipuss is incoming"
-Antonin Dvorak, 60 Bard

left ALT + move your mouse cursor close to your buffs to check all timers at once - Or close to your spells to see which spells are memorized currently

Lowbie Clerics and Shamen can be more efficent healers by using their entry level buffs, like courage instead of the less efficient low level healing spells.

speaking of macros, make a 'sense heading' macro and bind it to 'move forward' key. Everytime you move you get a sense heading skillup attempt
