Default Unable to connect to server

Hey all,

I posted this same thing in my other thread about playing off of files copies from a thumb drive. I'm having no luck connecting to the p99 server after having copied and pasted my files from my thumb drive which are in the exact same configuration as they are on my home PC which runs p99 with no issues.

Sorry to take up space, I just wanted to make sure this got some visibility since it was at the bottom of my thumb drive thread. Here's my last post from my other thread:

Alright, so I have a new question.. I copied my EQ files that I use on my home PC onto a thumb drive along with the shortcut I use at home to launch the server selector. This morning when i got to school, I copied and pasted everything over so that it mirrors (at least I'm 99.9% positive...) where/how I have my files set up at home when I play p99. When I go to log in however, I keep getting an error saying that a connection to the server couldn't be made. Also, I tried using the EQemu launcher after using Duxa's AllInOne installer and I essentially get the same error there.

Also, when I close the EQemu launcher it tells me that it could not write the config file and to please check access to C:\Program Files(x86)\Sony\Everquest\eqemulauncher.xml.
Below that it tells me that access to the same path mentioned above was denied.

Again, I'm not the most computer savvy person so I'll keep looking around for a solution, but in the mean time if something comes to mind, please throw me a bone

Thanks for all the help thus far, I love the p99 community. Nine times out of ten people rush to help each other out.

Edit: my shortcut that I'm using does have the patchme line added to it and I am running Windows 8 (I know).

Hello,

You mentioned the EQemu launcher. The launcher is no longer available to use to access P99.

The shortcut you create on your desk top (with the patchme), is what you click to access the game.

Type out the location of your eqgame.exe file for me.

Here you go, Lyra: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\EverQuest\eqgame.exe"

I initially tried using a short cut to the above mentioned file using the same path and everything, with patchme added to the end of it, but I didn't seem to have any luck so thats when I tried using Duxa's AllInOne installer and tried out EQemu launcher as well, just to give you a frame of reference.

Thanks, seriously appreciate your help!

Edit: Here's the destination path I have my shortcut set up to as well: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme

4) In the Properties menu that appears, edit the target line to say "C:\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme. The quotes are only needed around the destination string if it contains spaces. Select Apply and then OK to close the properties box.
So because you have spaces in your destination string, you need " " around the address (not the patchme part)

You will right click your desk top (anywhere) and choose shortcut. It will say "Type the location of the item". You will type:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme

Just like that. Copy and paste it.

Click next, and complete the shortcut.

Click that to start the game, and post results.

Ok, well you've edited and your shortcut looks correct.

Move the file directly off C:. Just drag the Everquest folder to C.

Then make your shortcut:

C:\EverQuest\eqgame.exe patchme

Ok, I got rid of all the filler between C: and EverQuest so that it looks just like you've stated it should.. I'm really stumped as to why it's not working at the moment. I appreciate your help though!

If you still have the eqemu launcher, open it, let it do its thing "cannot connect blah blah blah," and right click the launch button in lower right hand corner. Click only play eq. Works for me.

Did you actually move/drag the folder to C too?

I don't want to encourage use of the launcher. It's done. It's over. Get rid of it, because you all are going to need to understand how to access the game without it.
