Default Things Envisioned That Never Were During Classic

I am remembering some of the awesome things the game once had planned but either dumped later or adopted way late into Live. I am not advising any of these things be updated in the game as this is a reflection of Classic, Kunark, and Velious EQ. [You must be logged in to view images. Guild Hall Plans: I remember when reading the book that came with Kunark back in the day (I love reading about game lore when it was interesting back then) it mentions that you can get a hall set up for your guild. This does exist now in Live, but it was originally supposed to be part of Classic/Kunark EQ. Anyone able to find a PDF of the old Kunark Guide that came in the box? There were a few things they never implemented that were in there. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Poor Plane Of Mischief: The zone never was finished. :/ I still wish somebody would have tracked down the team that threw together the zone and discussed with them what the plans for the zone were, what some dead ends were meant to be, etc. It was EQ's most unique zone and I spent probably 3-4 months bound there after our Velious era guild disbanded over the two guild leaders divorcing and drama involved with it.

The Game Map!: Looking over the map they began filling some places in over the years on the Classic Continents. I used to have the cloth map from Kunark hung up in my room... Amazing all the spots on the map that don't exist now on live still and ones that came along much later. I remember they intended some zones to be different... I like Veksar that came later, but originally it was supposed to be another pure underwater zone like Kedge, but the pathing was all messed up. :/

Ultra Rare Creatures: A lot of ultra rare creatures that don't carry anything special... The Queen Spider in LFay, the named wolf in Sro, the broken Terrorantula quest... The rarest one for me? I only spotted the Orc Hatchetman in GFay once on Live. Surprised I saw it in 2010 in Gfay when I was killing a druid out there for my Erudite Necro Mantle Quest. I really wish EQ put together a nice piece on the game's concepts in the beginning... What changed... Etc.

one of the Paladin sword quests (Soulfire or Firey Avenger, can't remember which) was supposed to use the Sphinxes in Rathe Mountains. the quest was broken at first though, and they eventually switched it to the quest version that is in the game today.

I've always wanted to be able to do something with the broken arrow from the Shaman Epic quest; the NPC gives this great line about how you'll know when you need to use it, but then it just rots in everyone's bank :-(

I know that someone at Verant must have had some plan for it ...

I'm pretty sure I got this link from the p99 forums originally but it seems relevant:

From 12-01-99
Topic: MYSTERIES OF NORRATH! A MUST READ AND REPLY FOR ALL EVERQUEST PLAYERS! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
http://www.oocities.org/theroyalnorr...uard/rok1.html

This includes classic myths like the Lake Rathe Monster, etc.

There was another link I was looking for but can't find. It was a webarchive of pre-release speculation about the game. Less relevant but still totally awesome.

I think some of the best dead ends in EQ are represented by the transition from Beta to Live. The Beta storyline was bomb: http://everquest.allakhazam.com/wiki/beta_lore

The tribes of Trakanon is my shit.

The tale of Edril has inspired me to play again. Rolling up a High Elf Paladin tonight.

What the hell was the orb under kurns tower?

I spent months trying to figure out if that thing did anything.

It's not present on this server. Makes me sad.

PoM was so good.

I also spent most of Luclin era chilling in PoM - I used to duo with a friend dru/enc, my favourite zone in game by a long shot.

Greenmist was implemented way too late also. The Iksar SK quest line is such a great quest/lore - it was thrown in during late luclin iirc?

That weapon would of been great/useful during velious or early luclin.

I don't think Greenmist and the Iksar Warrior pike was completely finished until Luclin IIRC
