Default Getting Rid Of Red Border Around Spells (And Other Hotbar Issues) After Patch

Heya all,

First of all disclaimer: I am no expert. But I hope this helps someone, as I saw a few threads about these issues, a few of which I linked to. If you use the files below, please make a backup first of your UI. You can do this by navigating to the folder where your EQ is at, (mine is at C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\EverQuest\uifiles\default). Make a copy of that folder somewhere.

Also, I am not sure if anyone else has posted a fix, or even has the same problem as me, but who knows- throwing this out there for anyone who may be having some issues post patch. If anything, a Hotbar Hub of links!

I also say again, I not an expert, so if you are, things may seem a little dumbed-down and overly detailed [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] But I wanted to include everything so in case I made an error, it will be easy to retrace steps in troubleshooting, and if anyone is on the same level as me, can maybe follow along. Hopefully no one sends a posse of orcs on me.

So, after last patch, I had 3 changes to my hotbars.
I am including my other issues in hopes that it helps someone where to go, to kind of have a central place with the links. Anyway, here we go.

1. Hotbar Layout Arrangement
Namely, they were now a 2X5 instead of a 1X10. I was able to fix those by following this post. I followed the 1. Default instructions there.

2. 3rd Hotbar Missing or Not Opening
I could not open a 3rd hotbar by either going through my EQ--> Actions --> Hotbar 3 (etc.) Nor through hitting my keyboard with the keys I had associated with that command of opening a new hot bar (Which can be set: EQ--> Options --> Keys Tab, drop down menu to UI, then look down to Toggle Hotbar 3 Window).

Two Fix Options:
A. The fix I used for Hotbar Layout Arrangement above fixed this problem for me.

B. Another option is for a fix in this thread. It also has notes on how to make your own UI folder to keep this from happening again on page 2 (That's a keeper, think I will make a post-it note the size of a poster board as to not miss it next time).

3. Red or Yellow Border Around Spell Gems On Hotbar
After using the fix above for the Hotbar Layout Arrangement, I was left with a red border around each spell gem on my hotbar. I tried copying the .tga files from mutiple attachments of different kinds of gems, but that red border remained.

Now mind you, I have not used any mods or changes for my UI and have always left everything as-is after originally installing titanium a year ago. And silly me (and maybe you as well) did not think to save your current UI with each patch to ensure no changes are made, or make a different UI folder all together.

This is what I did (Note: Long version with details - you can skip down to What To Do):
I went on my other laptop which had not been patched yet, and I cross compared each file in the patch UI default folder with what I had in my eq UI folder that was not yet patched. I took each one of those files from my unpatched UI folder and zipped them into a single file and drop boxed them to my other laptop.

I then decided to just install the .tga files to see what would happen (the spells and gemicons, etc., sans .xml files). I should have got a snapshot of it, but basically, I had very colorful spell icons, with the red border still there. I then used gimp to actually see (photoshop elements, what I have does not have/edit/open .tga files). Going through every .tga file, nowhere did I see that red border.

I then assumed changes were made in the .xml files, some coding that adds in a border with color and such. So, I then uploaded the remainder of the files which were the .xml files, and voila, my hotkeys are back to how they used to be. I suppose I could have gone through the .xml code and cross-compared the changes, but that would be for another coding-learning-dissecting-escapade.

What To Do:

Disclaimer: I do not know what affects uploading my UI on the other laptop pre-patch to the other laptop post-patch, but so far everything is working as intended. Please make a backup of your UI before making any changes. Also, make sure you upload all background tga files (I had a haha and ended up with a morphed screen, shown below).

1. Backup: Make backup of your default UI folder. For example, mine is here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\EverQuest\uifiles\default

2. Download: Download the zip file (link is dropbox zip file). Enter contents into your default UI folder (make sure this goes into the ui folder where your EQ is stored, and not where your backup is stored).

Below is what my icons looked like after. I still have to fix the arrangement of my windows, everything was all over the place, but you can at least see, no red border! The botched loading screen was a (whops I forgot my coffee moment) when I only added two of the EQLS background tga files.

Please forgive me if I mess anything up! Hopefully this helps.
