Default Brand new player - what should i expect for grps?

Im just starting out and i'm torn between playing a War or Dru. I would really like to play the warrior but i'll be noobed out gear wise and i'm not sure how grouping will work out. What should i expect for group availability. Im surprised by the server numbers but are they strong enough to roll a warrior from scratch at this point?

There's really two different classes of "newbie".

"Veteran" Newbies - Played on live and have a good idea of where to go and what to do, but don't have any gear advantage or player connections whatsoever.

"Actual" Newbies - Never played EQ before, taking their first dive on P99. Comparatively rare.

If you're a vet newbie, your first priority on starting on a server as aged as this one is is to get some cash flow. Play a decent solo class that can either finance what you need or get it another way (druids are excellent for this via ports and PL, necro for farming drops, etc). Then use that cash flow to twink yourself on the character you'd actually like to take to the end game based on your preferred play style.

Actual newbie, you can go that same route, but I suggest not. Play what strikes you as the most fun. You'd do well to research how people like their characters at the high end, however, as it takes a significant time investment past a certain point (as an example, a lot of 60 druids lament their grouping experiences and have a hard time getting into high-value camps or being viable raiding). Don't let that stop you, it's just something to keep in mind.

Good luck.

Greetings

Im on uk time never struggle tooo much finding a group . However as some said above i personally would look into the classes and decide from there. Wouldnt say its impossible to roll a warrior n play with noob gear but would be harder than say a necro or druid..

My experience i played a wiz then ranger then bstlord on live now i play a necro as main and have a ranger also. If there was 1000000 druids on here and you wanted to play a druid .. Do it.. If you wanna play a war.. Do it.. This game is frustrating at times but if you enjoy your class it dont matter imo.

If you group alot you will end up finding regular partners etc. so yeah.. Whatever you decide is the right thing to do

I would definitely pick sha/necro/dru/Mage for your very first char. Warrior will be boring without gear.

If you want a warrior, just roll with it. Get levels, be good to your groups, and I guarantee that people will notice you're new to the server just by looking at you and seeing that you're not wearing 50K's worth of gear. You'll have moderate gear and weapons by level 20 just from the kindness of the player base.

Don't roll up a class just to twink; that's the stupidest theory i've ever heard. If you want to play a Warrior, play a Warrior. You'll be amazed by how much help you'll receive, and you can easily tank your way through the content you're going to see. There are low level proc weapons that cost 50pp, and people will probably just give them to you. Don't play a class you don't enjoy, just to twink a class you do....that's such a waste of time.

Welcome to the server! I am also pretty new. I think it basically boils down to how you want to play. If you have limited time (in one block) and want to be able to just log in and get to it; a druid or another solo class is probably better. If you choose a druid just don't expect to get groups later on.

If you are in it for the long haul you can start an untwinked warrior just fine IMO. Plenty of actual newbs around (as well as a lot of twinks) at the lower levels, you just have to stay in the popular zones. EC > N ro/ Oasis > Unrest > MM etc. I would consider making a solo class for times when you just can't find groups or you are waiting for a spot to open up otherwise you might get kind of frustrated during those times when there just aren't any groups to be had.

I like having my druid because my play times aren't always predictable and being able to gate to wherever I want to level and get started is nice. I am also considering starting a more group friendly class for times when I have bigger blocks of time to commit.

Look me up in game as Brocktree with whatever you decide to make, I can meet up and port you if needed! Good luck

If I remember correctly - Orc Hill and Crushbone almost always have groups.

EC will probably be the least frustrating, however, as it has the advantage of asking Druids/Shamans at the EC tunnel for buffs at almost any time of day/night. Oasis always has groups going too.

Good luck [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
