Default 10 years out, now Im back!

I played Original EQ in 2000-2002ish, basically started about 6 months pre-Luclin. I played my WE Druid Cheopis for 2 years straight on the Luclin server and got him to 56 teaming with a couple RL friends. We devised a method of aggro kiting with no mana loss and my Ranger pet ....errr....friend would hack them from behind. Velious Orcs didnt stand a chance! My most memerable moments were the Paw of Opolla quest camping that bloody shroom in Guk for 8 hour shifts, getting the mana free snare necklace and joining the Veteran's Legion guild and experiencing the hellish long raids on PoF. I even got myself into a horrible death loop by Binding in PoF and forgetting to rebind elsewhere when we were done! We won't discuss that though...it involved losing a level and having to /petition a grumpy GM who saved the day. Apparently I'd left quite a corpse pile in there and I'm sure the bodies caused a fair bit of zone in lag [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

When Luclin came out, the moon was a barren land as few people had machines that could load it! I camped a full set of Elysian gear and a Bone Handled Scimitar and looked damn shiny! I also decided around then that I needed to get out of EQ as it was taking too much time so I gave my Druid away and never saw him again. I lasted maybe 6 months before I needed to go back and rolled a DE necro who I still have. I got him to 59 in two weeks flat with minimal twinkage and no PLing. Lowbie zones that were overrun in the beginning were ghost towns and the fun of exploring and teaming through those first levels was gone. Gear? Planar stuff eclipsed anything from the old world and made camping drops seem like a stellar wasteof time. I quit again.

Fast forward 10 years to 2 weeks ago and I figured I'd check out the landscape of the game. My gear is all seriously out of date, just look at the stats on the 'junk drops' Defiant gear! Crazy stats that only make the old world even more inadequate. All the high end push has completely killed the original appeal. Mercenaries? Forget it. No boats to fall off of and drown? No corpse runs?? I like a challenge when I play a game and have to admit the changes they made will be greatly enjoyed by the min-max crowd, but it's just too easy. Hell, I was stuck in Neriak for a couple hours way back before this 'Find' thing. I printed a binder of maps to reference and marked important /locs on them but now there's no need. I burned him from 59 to 66 over the past weekend with casual play.

I was getting bored quickly and my nostalgia wasn't being fulfilled... then I found this site and decided to check it out.

I rolled Cheopis back to life and hit GFay running on Red. This is what EQ was meant to be; this is the challenging and thinking game I remembered where there were actual consequences to bad decisions! I've already lost a corpse with my beginner club, a couple pieces of uber raw armor with +2 AC and my phat pile of ~100 cp I was saving for my lvl 1 spells but it's all good.

I'm just trying to say it's good to be back to a good old game, especially now that I'm not going to get too deep into it or too serious about things in game. I'm on for a few hours here and there and mostly at night, so if you're running through GFay and see a naked Druid hacking at bats with a rusty club, shoot me a Hello! I should be up to porting levels in a few weeks at this pace [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
