Default Rewarding horizontal progression in classic EQ style?

I was thinking about this, and I'm curious if you guys think this would be super lame, or if it would be a way to really expand content at level cap without diminishing older content.

Gear should rise in all essential stats up to level cap.

From there, I feel like each raid (and higher level group content) from expansions should offer slightly different gear. The major change would be types of resistances. Say Kunark dropped MR gear and Velious dropped cold resist gear, another expansion fire resist gear, and so on.

Then make resistance essential for top tier fights in each expansion, wherein maybe each expansion has 1-3 pieces for each class that are BiS and have all resist types (a beat the game set of armor).

To me, that means a game could very much be open world and play like EQ without feeling crowded. Guilds could be focusing on specific resist raids and there would be tons of content to share. Non-raiders could always farm lower tier resist gears than that of raid targets, and rare world items with amazing procs/on-use effects.

On that note variety could be had in procs and on-use effects so it doesn't feel like one is grinding for the same gear over and over again.

Why would you want a classic server to be anything other than a classic experience?

This is actually a really good and well-thought-out idea, but people here want Classic and only Classic.

Not Classic, Not Happening. Ask someone with one of those other weird servers we can view on log in to do this.

Classic server? ~1000 presumably unboxed chars.

Servers way behind on classic (hated!?) mechanics? All but double/single digit boxes.... with boxing.

Blue is pretty classic minus the lootflation/timeline but its a work in progress especially due to changes over the last year.
