Default EQOA Revival (EQOA emulation) is always looking for more people to help!

Hello Project 1999 off-topic forums! I didn't want to post this in any of the actual P99 forums because I didn't want to be off-topic and steal thunder away P99.

EQOA Revival is a group of EQOA fans that want our beloved game back. (Everquest Online Adventures) It was a great game and far ahead of its time especially for a PS2 title and PS2 MMORPG at that.

The group has 500+ members, but it's a small core of people who do the programming.

If there are by chance any people with valuable programming tools that are interested in learning or already know things like Java, C++/C Programming, servers, networking, etc, it would be a huge help to us. But even if you're just a fan or an EQ fan who wants to see another EQ game rise again, you're more than welcome to join the group to. And who knows, maybe you know someone who knows someone who can help, so on and so forth.

if any P99 people who worked on that were to help on EQOA, we would forever be in debt to you as you obviously have more experience than anyone in our group does. But if not, that is totally okay too. They have gotten to the server list and that's as far as they have gotten, there is also a playable save state where you can run around the world.

If you are interested, you can reply here and we can talk or you can join the Facebook group saying what you want to help with or if you're just an EQ fan who wants to see us succeed, that too is totally fine.

Group is here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/445149928880146/

Thank you EQ1 fans, I appreciate you just taking the time to read this [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I've been following the Facebook group for a while now. Hoping all goes well so we can play EQOA again. They have been stuck at the server screen for 2-3 months now? I can imagine its pretty difficult.

When I told a guy who worked on Phantasy Star Universe via reverse engineering about the December break-through, he said it sounds like they arent too far from entering the world. It can be a complicated process though I imagine.

In December they were able to a receive a session request packet from the client and returned a session response packet that the client accepted and then began to ask for the actual server list.

Now they are working on responding to the second server list request, but still aren't in the game world yet. If anyone happens to be a guru about that or wants to help, let me know [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

How would one play on the PS2 though? Isn't the server IP hard coded into the game for connecting to official SOE servers?

You re-route where it's going. Essentially you create your own server. You need your server to respond properly with the client. They have gotten communication from the client.

This is a lengthy video, but it's pretty neat and definitely has some similarities to doing it with EQOA. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIAKzzlJ67w
