![]() It doesn't fit their reptilian form?
It would be OP with their armor bonus? Lazy developers? (My money's on this one)

![]() It was a lore thing... something about their scales chafing against the metal. They were given an armor bonus to make up for it.
IMO the devs got lazy when Velious came out and it made itemization more difficult + complainy players

![]() The role play reason was that it would chafe their scales. Why ringmail wouldn't do the same thing IDK.
It was also probably consideration with the ac bonus for balancing issues (at least for Kunark/Old World). Could also be lazy developers not wanting to go back and add Iksar to all the plate items in Kunark/Old World. PoG/Thurgadin armor did not include Iksar initially on Velious release.

![]() Lore. Now why they let Iksars wear plate in the very next expansion, I have no idea. Furor and FoH complained to Sony enough and had it changed

![]() Heh plate is just 1 model.. They probubly consider it "gameplay".. You know, just anything to give players a variety of pro's and cons to look at when choosing a race.

![]() It was a dumb decision that was rectified almost immediately on Live but has persisted for years here

![]() They probably over-valued the innate AC bonus, thinking that being able to break the AC cap that other races are limited to would make it the must play race for warriors. This is sort of ironic since the size (easy to target) and FSI of ogres are arguably more important. Giving iksars a huge penalty with some lore behind it let them feel balanced giving the AC bonus.
IMO it's super dumb. Yes, iksars have scales...They also have TEETH and a TAIL. Why not do something with that, like a racial attack bonus that's easily offset by adjustments to starting strength. It's pretty similar silly restriction to some of the class specific weapon restrictions, intended for balance but unrealistic. Monks can't learn to use slashing/piercing weapons? Dude can do a flying kick and a dragon punch but can't figure out how to use the dagger* that wizards start with?
