Default Encyclopedia Necrotheurgia

Hello fellow Necros,

I'm looking for some concrete evidence/definitive answer of what the Minion of Hate focus effect on the Encyclopedia Necrotheurgia does.

So far it has been summoning a max level pet for the 56 and 59 pets (I am not sure about the rogue pet yet). I don't have any parses to back it up but the damage output from these pets seem to be decently increased over the output from the non-focus item summoned pets even with the pet level taken into account.

I haven't had much time to play around with it yet but the 56 monk pet I summoned last night was hitting for 61. The 59 pet I summoned the day before was also hitting for 61 albeit much more frequently and with more overall damage output (due to the higher level of the pet I'm sure). Again, this is all anecdotal with no parses to back it up. Both pets were buffed with Augment Death.

Does the focus effect add any extra stats such as increased STR and HP to the pets or is it just summoning a max level pet (or max level +1?) every time.

I've read a lot of conflicting information about this so I'm just trying to get some clarification so that I understand what this effect does.

TL;DR - What exatly does Minion of Hate do?

It should summon a max level plus one pet for the pet spells between 49 and 60.

That accounts for the higher max damage you are seeing. It should be easy to test, if you have someone in their 40s con the pet with and without the item equipped when summoning.

It also supposedly makes the pet bigger, if you look through the some older posts on Allah from the 2001 era. There are also posts mentioning the pet level increase from that time too, if it doesn't work that way on P99 it should.

This is different than the lower level Sol Ro mage focii items, but the Encyclopedia was the first Pet Focus item that increased the pet's level - they became much more common and a required Focus to have for Necro/Magi/Beastlords.

The two above were from endgame raids in Luclin and PoP so most pet classes didn't get a Pet Focus until the first easily attainable one in Lost Dungeons of Norrath:

It does not always summon a max level pet. It simply shifts the level range up one. If you summoned a pet between lvl 40 and 44, now you'll summon one between 41 and 45.

The pets are noticeably bigger as well.

My undedrstanding is 1 level higher than what the pet will be when you cast the pet spell.
So there is still pet level variation.

But you have the book. so test it and let us know.

This is exactly the effect that I am seeing.

Freakish is correct. It shifts the level range up +1. That comes with a modest damage increase (mostly from higher level rather than from the raw +2 damage the pet receives).

Nothing OP but is a nice item. Also has reclaim energy which is handy.
