I wonder if this is legit. IIRC the UK 'Independent' is a bit of a tabloid and not all that reliable, but previous stories have in fact panned out, for example:

This kind of thing makes me physically sick. It's bad enough that it happens at all, but ISIS is funded by the Saudis and weaponized by the United States . . . .

In an editorial on 27 January 2013, the Independent on Sunday referred to itself as a "proudly liberal newspaper"

While definitely not defending ISIS, I wouldn't trust a word of it.
