![]() The recent changes to charm for bards were to bring them in line with how it worked in classic.
For the higher level charm, it's supposed to be 60 mana on cast, and up to a minute long charm, not 20 mana on cast, and 3 ticks. Thank you for your consideration Astuce Subterfuge

![]() Someone said that it was originally 20 mana but it was upped to 60 mana with the introduction of things like flowing thought - is there any evidence of this? Also I'm sure astuce is right about the second concern - Charm seems to last around 3 ticks now when I was normally able to get it to last for up to a full minute, sometimes more, sometimes less. Granted this at least makes it more predictable, I don't believe this is classic.

![]() Is there any link clearly explaining the difference in how the level 39 charm and the level 27 charm function? Astuce is asserting that the level 39 charm should still last a long time like it used to, but the caster's realm link says that it lasts three ticks.

![]() Quote:
Sadly the "three tic" duration is accurate but it does not tell us if the song repeats on its own or fades... I wish I knew the answer for certain but my bard on live wasn't used that much and I didn't charm with it at the time.

![]() After a lot of homework it does seem that the duration to 1 minute was done on august 27th, 2002.... during PoP or right before it.
It's very difficult not to get irritated with this, since while reading up on those changes, I noticed a lot of stuff that other classes are benefiting from that are not classic at all. For example, the same patch that increased the duration of lvl 39 charm to 1 minute and gave it a 60 mana cost instead of 20, also introduced dot stacking so that more than one druid could cast drones of doom on the same mob, and that stinging swarm would not be overwritten by drones of doom, and so forth and so on. The only dots that were excluded from this change were the ones with a debuff component, like the bard ones. cheers

![]() Solon's did only last 3 ticks previously. It did not auto refresh the song, it was pulse based...
For example.. charm a mob... mana bar gets hit.. keep singing the song, and when the mob breaks charm, the next pulse will attempt to recharm. There is no mana cost on the additional attempt, only if you were to stop and restart the song would you get the additional mana hit. After patch, they increased the mana cost threefold (swarm kite nerf) but as a reparation they increased the time to 1 minute. (didn't help swarm kiters with the increase) Swarm kiting was still possible at this point, but a bard could only do it for 1-2 hours tops before running out of mana. Meditate skill of 1 led to that being a pretty drastic hit. Some bards purposely stacked flowing thought at this point to try to combat it, but swarm kiting was never the same afterwards
