Default Lifts in Greater Faydark not functioning

I'm new to project 1999, and have been playing for roughly 4-6 hours (it's hard to tell; gameplay has been spotty). I have read all the starting guides, and have (obviously) set up and run an account as described. However, I've been running into a number of issues, including: broken monster movement (they will run towards an area, blink out of existence, and "respawn" where they left off; this continues in a cycle), a lack of attack animation (for both myself and the monster, whose animation freezes altogether usually), a lack of walking animation that makes it seem as though myself and all other players are gliding, and, more recently, a frustrating lack of functionality in the Greater Faydark lifts.

I played EQ several years ago when, quitting just after the release of Shadows of Luclin, so I'd like to think that my memory hasn't dulled that much, and I'm operating the lifts correctly. However, no matter how many times I click the trigger (and watch it slide up/down), the lift refuses to move. I've managed to make it to the ground exactly once, because someone on the ground level had called the lift down while I was on it. Attempts to get back up met with failure, excepting that time when someone else called the lift back up; it went up, presumably with me on it, and then promptly dropped me to my death (note: I was AFK at the time; I did not move). I encountered a similar problem going back down, in which someone called the lift down, and I dropped straight down to my death, apparently ignoring the lift altogether.

Now, I highly suspect that these issues are somehow related to the fact that I continually get this error message when logging in:

"Your XML files are not compatible with current EverQuest files, certain windows may not perform correctly. Use '/loadskin Default 1' to load the EverQuest default skin"

I have tried using "loadskin Default 1", but to no real effect (I can tell that it is trying to do something, because my screen resets when entered). Does anybody know if this would cause the issues I'm describing, and/or how to fix the issue? I understand that it's not a lot to go on, technically speaking, but after an hour of trying to retrieve my corpse(s) from the top of the lift, I am at my wit's end.

This is a UI error, has nothing to do with the lifts.

The lifts in Greater Faydark are a known issue. For most people if you click it 3 times in a row, letting it display its movement between each click, the lift will begin to move.

Thank you for your swift reply. I have tried the three click method, and although I have yet to make it the ground safely, at least I am consistently falling to my death at regular intervals. I shall continue to experiment and see if I can't figure out a way to prevent this. Someone down on ground level is going to see all my corpses and wonder what I've been thinking [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

IF you're getting xml error messages, it's only the beginning of your trouble IF you did not do the necessary patches after installing the game. I installed Titanium using another guide and that site did not instruct to do the patches and had these problems.

Go here (same as Getting Started link from main page)

As stated the lifts issue is not related to this, happens to everyone. Just click it three or four times and it should work [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
