Default Rogue creation guide?

Well I'm in the mood to make a rogue alt, but I've never played a melee on live or p1999 before so I don't know much about the mechanics of melee.

The likelihood of me ever raiding anything is quite low, but I do really enjoy min/maxing my characters as best as I can, given that limitation.

Which stats are how important for a rogue? I can't find anything out on google or the wiki or anything other than "str = dmg, agi = defense, dex = procs, stam = hp"... and that's not quite as much detail as I'd like.

Should I just drop 25 into strength and 5 into dex, no matter my race? Or is it worth bringing non-strength stats up to a certain point before I put the remainder in strength, or what?

Strength is by far the easiest stat to raise (Well, Charisma isnt tough either).

You can max str with ~187 str with items + shaman buffs, so I wouldn't put 25 points into strenght.

I always put 25 into stamina, because it always was the hardest for me to raise, and was the most useful in the long run. (For melee/hybrid at least)

Drop all your points into Strength.

Your DPS comes from Backstab, your damage with Backstab comes from Strength.

Don't listen to this kid. Race doesn't matter. Put all points into stamina, the rest into dex(honestly the rest don't matter!). Get your strength to 187 unbuffed. Use an evade hotkey.

Strength cap increases with kunark though, right? And remembering that I'm not going to be getting raid gear, will I still be easily capping my strength then?

How is stamina "most useful in the long run"? What all does it do? Just give hit points?

STA = HP. The more hp you have, the longer you stay alive. The longer you stay alive, the more damage you can do.

Strength can be capped fairly easy and fairly cheap. Stamina very difficult to cap as a Rogue if you don't raid.

Guess I didn't realize I would be taking so much damage in experience groups that I need to worry about my stamina so much.

Basic STR items:

Mithril Legs: 7STR
Mithril Vambraces: 7STR
Thick Banded Belt: 15STR
Hero Bracers: 10STR
Gloomwater Harpoon: 4STR

43STR right there, so I can see where the idea that capping strength is easy.

Those are also all very expensive items for the non-raiding player. A Barbarian will already be at or above max desirable unbuffed strength with those items.

Dex wouldn't be a great choice, as you typically *don't* want your weapons to proc. AGI is practically useless, so that leaves STA.

But if you are going Wood Elf or Gnome, STR wouldn't be a bad investment. However, if you chose those two races you aren't Min-Maxing, so who really cares, eh?

(Note I only picked high STR items from the top of my head, I'm sure there are better items out there for non-raiders).

Most random xp groups you will take dmg. Not a lot, but you will. Trust me.
