Default Giving EQ a Chance

Hey, I'm completely sheltered to the EQ scene. I used to play AC (Ashersons Call) a bit until the servers went down and thought I'd give the server a shot. Though I'm not sure where I'm headed or what I'm doing. Saw something about being able to try out the tutorial to get to know the basics but didn't see that on character creation screen.

I rolled a Half Elf Bard on the Project 1999 (1): The Scars of Velious server. The controls feel a bit weird to me and seems like there is alot of UI elements that'd I'd need to familiar myself to.

If there's anyone that would be kind enough to help me learn a few things or show me around thatd be great!

Sincerely
Rubiwen, The Bard

WELCOME!!

Regarding the ui:

If you hit alt-o to bring up the options window, there is a tab where you can look at all the controls and key bindings.

This will give you an idea of what you can do and also how you might want to do it.

I particularly suggest you unbind the command for casting spell gem 9 (alt-9). This is an unsupported function on the server, and can bug out your game if you accidently invoke it.

Welcome to EQ! Just want to say.. the game can be brutal.. and feel slow.. but it is also the most rewarding since you generally have to work for items (unless some bored high lvl just hands you stuff.. ) My best advice to anyone in this game.. be social.. make friends. Friends and grouping is the #1 thing that made EQ great. I have only been on this server for a week myself and have met some great people i talk to all day already [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

P.S. you picked a seriously hard class to play.. there is alot going on with a bard and no downtime.. That being said.. If you can play a bard well.. you will be a god. If you don't. well.. you will just die alot.

Welcome! Let me give you some newb advice!

Firstly, alt + o is 'options' as stated above. Go into controls and change your movement from arrow keys to WASD + Q E for strafing. Now you can move around.

Secondly, type /toggleinspect off. Now you can move around with WASD while looking (hold right click to look, it won't automatically inspect your character anymore.)

Third, go into graphic settings, advanced, and turn the clip plane all the way up. Now you aren't staring into a dense fog (well, you are... but it's further away!)

Fourth, H is 'hail'. That lets you start conversations with NPCs. If they say nothing when you Hail them up close, they have nothing to say. Right click on them if they are merchants or banks to open their windows.

Fifth, C is 'con'. This is 'consider', which lets you see if they hate you and will attack on sight (glares at you threateningly) or won't (glowers dubiously, indifferent, etc). The color indicates if they will kick your ass in combat. White yellow red = you will probably die. White is actually 'even match' but still.

That's the basics! Now get the veliousUI, and set up your windows appropriately, then lock them all so you don't fuck it while playing. I recommend making a second chatbox and filtering all combat stuff to that box, or you will never see what people say in game or see loot.

Chat is /ooc for out of character (zonewide), /shout is shout (zonewide), /tell name is whisper to that player, /g is group, /gu is guild, /auction is auction.

Type / to see who is in your zone.

When you do all of this post in the thread and we will help further! WELCOME and GOOD LUCK!
