Default Oggok and Grobb Tradeskill Updates

Oggok
Oggok received an update to tradeskill amenities in Dec 2001.

This Oct 2001 EQTraders snapshot mentions the limited tradeskill offerings.

This Feb 2002 EQTraders snapshot doesn't mention the patch specifically but includes a number of new vendors.

OOE NPCS
* Pordopa - alchemy vendor
* Korgag Swillchugger - brewing vendor
* Helgara Dirtcarver - pottery vendor
* Kerplooe Dirtcarver - pottery vendor
* Blergerda - clay/smithing vendor
* Gretamog - tailoring vendor

OOE Items
* Garakbar - Sandalwood
* Rora Dirtstamp - Letters of Jonas (Vol. 1-5)
* Crunga and Erung - Water Flask, Mead, Short Beer (unsure here, as these appear to be general vendors)
* Clurg - Elven Wine, Brandy, Red Wine, White Wine, Short Beer
* Juk Hidebeater - How to Sew: Medium Sizes

Missing In Era Items
* Bubbgrib - Ikthar's Fine Steel Skin
* Juk Hidebeater - Small Sewing Kit

Misc
* Varrok Neckchopper should provide information on ogre cultural weapons when hailed (presumably gated for the Sep 2000 cultural tradeskill patch).
* Zarg Knightbane should provide information on ogre armor and shields when hailed (presumably gated as above).
* Clurg is clipping into the brew barrel at (263, -255)

Grobb
Grobb received an update to tradeskill amenities in Feb 2002.

This Oct 2001 EQTraders snapshot mentions limited tradeskill availability.

This Apr 2002 EQTraders snapshot mentions the February 13, 2002 update and lists the added objects, vendors, and items.

OOE Objects
* Brew Barrel at (87, -335)
* Standard Forge at (409, -190)
* Kiln at (490, -158)
* Pottery Wheel at (440, -142)

OOE NPCs
* Garklog - pottery cooking mold vendor
* Vynugga - pottery sketch vendor
* Blergagg - alchemy vendor

* Rezslog - gem vendor - This NPC appears on a Dec 2000 capture of Illia's bestiary (the earliest available), however EQTraders doesn't list her as selling gems until after the Feb 2002 update. Could Rezslog have been an empty vendor initially? Alternatively, EQTraders could have just been missing the information, but that would be a little surprising for a tradeskill-focused community to miss documenting such a visible NPC in a zone as small as Grobb for almost 3 years.

OOE Items
* Ootok and Bimuk - Mead, Water Flask (unsure here, as these appear to be general vendors)
* Zatok and Wista - Mead, Ogre Swill, Ale, Water Flask
* Gartonka - Nature's Beverages
* Okun - Forging Hammer, Smithing Chisel
* Grabah - Mercury, Comfrey, Sumbul, Fennel, Bladderwrack, Eucalyptus Leaf, Clubmoss, Echinacea, Lady's Mantle, Hyssop, Jatamasi, Hydrangea, Mystic Ash, Elderberry, Clover, Dhea, Heliotrope, Oakmoss, Sandalwood

Missing In Era Items
* Uzak - Jeweler's Kit, Legacy of Jewelcraft
* Jarlok - Small Sewing Kit
* Grabah - Lucerne, Sage Leaf, Birthwart, Fenugreek, Maidenhair Fern, Mandrake Root, Allspice, Benzoin, Night Shade, Mullein, Wolf Blood, Blue Vervain Bulb, Valerian Root, Yarrow, Figwort, Agrimony, Celandine Herb

A note on Alchemy vendors
It seems there are 2 primary Alchemy vendor inventories as seen here. Of the four cities where Shaman can be created, Halas and Cabilis have both vendor inventories. However, Oggok and Grobb appear to have one of each. As a part of the Dec 2001 (Oggok) and Feb 2002 (Grobb) updates, these two cities appear to have gotten their missing inventory.

For Grobb, it appears Grabah existed in the classic era, and Blergagg was added in the Feb 2002 update. Grabah's classic inventory was moved to Blergagg, and he was given the inventory that had been missing from Grobb.

More on Alchemy

Here is the original thread that led to P99's current alchemy vendor implementation for reference.

However, I found corroborating evidence from a Belgar's Alchemy Resource snapshot that the alchemy vendors for Oggok and Grobb should indeed be split. (For this snapshot, click the broken link below "Herbs & Potions:" then click on the "Herb Vendors" link in the header to get to the list of vendors.)

Here's a price list highlighting the split as well. The capture is slightly out of era (Jan 2002), but even so, it hasn't been updated with the new vendors.

Some corrections from my previous post above:

I was mistaken about sandalwood. Belgar shows that both Garakbar and Grabah should sell sandalwood along with their respective inventories.

I was also mistaken about the Letters of Jonas (Vol. 1-5) offered by Rora Dirtstamp. Apparently these were holdovers from the Old Alchemy system covered in detail here and should be included.

I came across this map of Grobb with spawns marked.

A couple things stood out to me.

- A single M9 (Herbalist) listed at the location of the present alchemy vendors, confirming the posts above.

- In the center of the map there's a M5 (Armor merchant) to the left of a B(asher). Once Vynugga (the OOE pottery vendor) is removed, the only other NPC there is Rezslog. If she were an armor vendor prior to the revamp, that could explain why EQTraders didn't document her. As to what her inventory would have been, I'm not sure. I'm not familiar with a reliable way to research vendor inventories.

IGN happened to have a couple screenshots of Grobb that are useful.

- Outside merchant building before 2002 update added new NPCs and tradeskill objects. That would be Rezslog on the right.
https://web.archive.org/web/20001011...ges/grobb2.jpg

- Shaman guild area with Grabah on the left by himself
https://web.archive.org/web/20001011...ges/grobb1.jpg

It seems too that the shaman trainer Kaglari had a pet?

----------

Ovens weren't added to Grobb until the April 2001 patch.
Quote:
* Grobb should now have a couple of ovens. Hopefully this will allow Troll bakers to keep their fellows full of carbs and ready to fight.
* Oven #1 at (220, 181)
* Oven #2 at (534, -400)

Let's try to salvage this mess. I should have made two separate threads...

Please disregard the sections marked 'OOE Items.' I misunderstood how EQTraders documented NPC inventories in the beginning. Apologies. It's probably most constructive to simply focus on NPCs and tradeskill objects for this issue.

Additional evidence of the Dec2001 changes to Oggok:

NPCs
* Pordopa - alchemy vendor
* Korgag Swillchugger - brewing vendor
* Helgara Dirtcarver - pottery vendor
* Kerplooe Dirtcarver - pottery vendor
* Blergerda - clay/smithing vendor
* Gretamog - tailoring vendor

Neither of the ShowEQ dumps contain the NPC names in question. They are also not present in this list of Oggok merchants.

EQAtlas notes the addition of ore (Blergerda), sewing patterns (Gretamog), and brewing supples (Korgag Swillchugger) to Oggok -- Oct2001 vs Jun2002

Multiple sources list a singular alchemy vendor in Oggok (Garakbar):

This is for all those struggling to do trade skills. In Oggok there are the following items to do tradeskills in: an oven, a forge, a brew thingie, a pottery wheel and kiln, a cultural forge, and vendors with small sewing kits. There are NO vendors that sell the items you need for any of these skills (except casks and bottles). For Ore, Clay, and brewing materials, you must head over to Grobb. For pottery sketches, you must head over to S. Ro. For smithing molds, go to the vendors in Feerrott (west of the bridge). For baking supplies, talk to the guy outside the hut if you take the left fork in the road twice. In Grobb: for brewing materials, go right at the warriors guild (toward the bar), go around behind, and the vendor to your right has brewing stuff. By the Casks and Bottles from Brokk Boxtripper in Oggok, for better prices, and so you can buy more supplies, as casks do not stack. For Ore and Clay, go straight through the city toward the SK guild. When you cross the bridge, there is a vendor next to a cart. He has small pieces of ore, small bricks of ore, and (I think) Large Bricks of Ore. He also sells various sizes of clay. In S. Ro, there are evil merchants in the middle of the desert. Be careful when buying there, as there are LOTS of wandering MOBs there that WILL take advantage of the fact that you are not paying attention. If you need locations of/directions to any of the items I've listed, just post and I'll get them to you.

You can find the basic blacksmithing book outside of Oggok to the right of the trail. Look around and you will find it. You can get some basic supplies by going to Grob (the troll city). A troll outside of the shadow night guild sells ore, forging and smithy hammers, and sharpening stones.

Are there any evil potters out there that can tell
me where to find pottery sketches? I have access
to all other items in Neriak but unless I missed
it, none of the evil cities have the sketches.

Thanks in advance,

Well.... There is supposedly a merchant in the middle of South Ro that sells
sketches and sells to evil races. I haven't gone there yet because so far I
have been able to get friends of mine to buy the sketches for my in
Freeport. If this merchant does exist I would like to know also and if
there are any other evil merchants out there who sell sketches I would like
to know that.

Tradeskill Objects

I am relatively new to playing EQ and I have gained 9th level with my
Troll warrior. I want to take a break from the constant slaying of
orcs, tarantulas and giant snakes to make some money at a trade, but
to my dismay you can't actually do any of the trades (save fishing) in
Grobb. Grobb contains no kiln, smithy, oven, pottery wheel, and the
merchant only sells small sewing kits not large ones.
Could anyone
give me suggestions on how to make a little cash as a Troll, maybe I'm
overlooking something, but it seems Trolls have it tough trade wise.

Is there an oven, forge, or still anywhere in Grobb? I tried baking with the fires in the prison area, across from the execution block, but couldn't get them to open up when I clicked on them.

The answer to your question is no, no, and no.
This has been repeatedly fed back to Verant by me
and many others. It makes no sense for a city to
have vendors selling supplies for a trade skill,
but no way to practice the trade. Most of the
cities in the game have this problem with one or
more of the trade skills. The nearest forge is
in Oggok, but I don't know if there is an oven
or still there...both are available in Neriak
however.

Proposed Changes
- Remove OOE Oggok NPCs: Pordopa, Korgag Swillchugger, Helgara Dirtcarver, Kerplooe Dirtcarver, Blergerda, and Gretamog
- Remove OOE Grobb NPCs: Blergagg, Garklog, Vynugga
- Remove OOE Grobb tradeskill objects: Brew Barrel, Standard Forge, Kiln, Pottery Wheel
- Adjust Grabah's herb inventory to match sources above (The end result should be: Grabah in Grobb has one herb inventory; Garakbar in Oggok has the other)
