Default Please, need some assistance from tech-savy people (5kpp reward if it's allowed :p)

So my knowledge of computers is very very basic, i usually just buy a new laptop every few years based on store advice and it runs whatever i end up getting for it pretty well.

I picked up The Witcher 2 the other day, and even on the lowest settings the game is a bit too choppy to actually enjoy.

Here are my system specs:

Intel (R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6500 @ 2.10 GHz per core
4.00 GB RAM
64-bit Operating System

I do not know how to see more information than that, unsure what my video card is but the game said i had 2 gigs of video RAM when i installed it.

The Witcher 2 min/recommended specs are here:

http://pc.ign.com/articles/115/11597...&RSSid=1159788

Was it a pipe dream at all to think my laptop could handle it? Anything i can try to get a noticeable increase in fps? I would try updating my video card drivers, but i don't even know how to do that.

Anyways any assistance would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just to confirm i'm an idiot and have no chance of running the game smoothly. If anyone can provide assistance that gets the game to a decent fps, and this it's not considered RMT by the devs, i'll give you 5kpp in gratitude [You must be logged in to view images. Great Haggler, I am sorry to say that having that game run smoothly on your current laptop is indeed a pipe dream. Just to be sure, though, go to Control Panel -->System-->Hardware-->Device Manager. Tell me what is says under "Display Adapter" (your video card.)

Your proc alone is probably going to bottleneck you, but it might suffice if you had a decent discrete card paired with it.

You could try tweaking your windows installation, but if it's your video card bottlenecking you, that wont really help much.

Thanks for the reply mate, under display adapters it says ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series.

Lol i kinda figured it was a pipe dream. Ah well, i guess i'll have it for whenever i get a new pc.

Nevermind. You're completely fuct with that graphics accelerator sorry bud

To answer your question: No it's not a dedicated card. It doesn't have it's own memory banks (which could also help to explain why your 4GB is showing up as 2GB, can't recall a machine where system shit alone took up 2GB)

edit: this wasn't super clear, basically your "video card" borrows memory from your RAM when it needs to do shit

Seems like your proc is the bottleneck, you may be able to squeeze a few more FPS out. What OS are you running, Vista?

Edit: Took too long replying LOL.

Most laptops (cheaper ones) have "integrated" graphic cards. These cheap integrated cards are great for emailing, browsing the web, word processing, ect. because they consume less power. However, when it comes to playing 3d games, EQ is about the only thing the'll run [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.].

More expensive gaming line laptops will have a "Dedicated" graphics card. Unfortunately there's is really no way to upgrade your laptops graphics unit without buying a new laptop.

Your overall spec's for your laptop are good, Its just that your system probably has an integrated graphics card. Could be wrong but that's usually the issue.

Graphics on your laptop are going to be the bottleneck in this case, do you know the specs of your GPU? Your CPU and RAM seem fine for that application, and unfortunately you can't easily upgrade the GPU in a laptop most of the time.

Honestly you'll need to get a laptop with a beefy GPU =/

Isn't 4500 series discrete? I'm pretty sure 42xx is integrated
