Stuck in chat mode

Every once in a while I'll get stuck where everything I type goes directly into chat. Makes it impossible to move as arrow keys just scroll back, inventory just types and "i", etc. After a minute or two it goes away. I think this only happens on my laptop too. It got me killed a few times years ago while trying to talk and kite when it would set in. Anyone know what this is and how to avoid it?

It happens when you are running and typing at least for me. I've found hitting alt a few times or control seems to refocus the cursor within the game. This is not a p1999 bug thought I remember encountering this on live quite a few times.
