Default New Necro

I played a lot of Asheron's Call and DAoC back when they were crowded, but only scratched the surface of eq.

Found out about eq emu from a friend but have been turned off by private servers in the past, but when I found out about project 1999 I was giddy with excitement at the prospect of reliving part of the golden age of MMOs.

Anyway, Ive been soloing for about a week and am now level 9 with my Dark-Elf Necromancer and have about 150p saved up in my coffers. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Its been challenging to say the least, with death after death.. Many resulting from hostile NPCs jumping through walls and such. (I know better now.. I think)

Anyway..

I'm really new to all the ins and outs of EQ, and would appreciate any help ranging from advice to new friends to group with.

Now level 8 again.. Damn lions.. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

actually maybe a certain pal who began at the start of the server who never played eq before can give you some tips. not giving his name because volunteering someone is bad mannerz

Yeah once you work out the kinks, a necromancer needs very little to no help... it's the #1 most played class on the server for a reason. Welcome!

Use gather shadows when traveling, it will make you invis to most things while it's up (casting/fighting/getting hit removes it).

Fight by walls/away from pathing mobs until you learn the areas/mobs.

By jumping while you run and side strafing you can outrun most normal run speed mobs as long as you're not encumbered/seriously hurt.

Thank you! Is there a way to get to the tunnels from the dock in east freeport? The map said there is a stairway under a bar just south of the dock..

Will i get killed as a dark elf down there?

Since I don't plan on playing any twinks, here is my pre-kunark super secret necro leveling guide. It worked on live and it worked better even here since some of these spots were/are apparently unknown to players. In particular the ulrich and corrupt guard camps, which on live were PERMA camped are still not popular here. When this server first opened very few people killed the sisters, although I think now more people may be there. Then again since kunark is out maybe people are in kunark instead.

1-14 Blackburrow
Collect gnoll fangs! These give you massive amounts of experience. Slaughter everything even green gnolls, kill snakes too.

15-20 Oasis
Tough it out during the levels of 19/20 and kill crocodiles and anything else that is even remotely blue. The levels of 19 and 20 are not as easy imho but you really want level 20 before going to the next spot.

20-34 OOT
Kill the sisters and dwarves. Start with the chick near the docks first, Antimine I think her name was. It might be boring at 33/34 but if you compare the experience you get with the experience in other places you will realize it's pretty good.

34- 44 Lower guk or West Karana
In guk, explore, wander around, it's trickier but more fun.
In west karana try ulrich and einhorst and root or ST pulling followed by a FD on the two guards in the tower. They drop corrupt guard bracelets and you can give them to the captain in NK for experience. This quest was long broken on this server, I even petitioned, and it was eventually fixed. I'm guessing the issue was "how much experience" do the bracers give. Well they gave a lot on live and now they give a lot here. It would be VERY interesting to see how much experience a level 1 gets from turning in a bracer. Note the bracers give experience even in the 30's/40's.

44-54 Lower guk
Start with sage/cav/exe then move up to dar hall once higher. You can solo frenzy at 49 just make sure to root/dot. Since rest the dead is fixed(no longer needs LOS) you no longer need to DMF to lull the room. You can do lord and magi at 49 also but it's a bit of a gamble. For lord, rest the dead and charm, or root/dot after breaking the room via FD. Make sure to cast rest the dead from as far as possible. For magi just root/dot.

Few other ideas
- With kunark, OT is good at 34 as well. This may be a bit more enjoyable than west karana.
- The hermit in SK. This was perma camped on live, but I'm not sure how popular it is here. I think the hermit is 20ish. He's a druid and to get him to come out of the house say "I will kill you". His spawn time is like 3 minutes or something ridiculously fast(I think faster).
- Stone skeletons in lake rathe at 24. IF you can break the camp this is a good one. Just breaking the camp is good for you, it's good practice. It's a tough one to break at 24.

Hope this helps!

Likely, the rogue guild is down there, they probably aren't a big fan of DE inny worshippers, you might not be KoS but i wouldn't risk it. Just invis past the guards/npcs on your way to nro.
