Default Hello, new monk here!

Hey server, I started playing here a couple days ago; after a ~9 year break from EQ. Pretty cool to go back in time and play on a classic server.

I don't remember a lot about the game, and its a (re)learning experience for me. Are there any easy to get lowbie weapons I should be aiming to get at level 6? Or am I pretty much going to be using my fists a while?
I managed to find my way back to Crushbone, I remembered that I liked leveling here before. Is this a good place to level for a human monk?
Any other tips for a newb are welcome [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Yeah you get better weapons as you go along,Crushbone is good for leveling depending on what level you are i'd recommend level 6 or so. Welcome to p99 man! [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

If you wanna get money in Crushbone, sell the belts and shoulderpads for 1pp and 2pp respectively to other players instead of handing them in for EXP. You'll accumulate a couple hundred plat or so by the time you graduate Crushbone University and you'll be able to buy yourself a couple of cheap monk weapons in EC.

haha yes! Crushbone University, well put sir.
but yes, my first toon ran through CB and not once did i turn those belts/pads in.
not only did i sell them, most people will come to you cash in hand.
so that was great... i was always to lazy to run them in anyhow.
double win when i left with a little over 150pp, whilst others there were struggling to scrounge up a few pp for spells. felt pretty nice.. until i got into EC and realised exactly how far my 150pp actually went,.

Either way, i agree. it is a great start. esp for a semi- gear dependant class.
you need all the PP you can get your epic monk fists on.

If you start out in Qeynos kill gnolls and turn fangs in at Captain Tillin (I think) for experience. Can do gnoll fang turn ins until about 15, plus exp on mobs there.

Vendor everything you get, do the monk headband quests for easy stat item. Probably aren't going to get any lowbie monk weapons unless someone hands you one in EC for free. If you get any cash save it and head to EC to buy a bamboo bo stick or some wu's armor. Also make sure you gather as many bone chips as possible, whenever I started here I sold like 300 of them and bought some gear with that money.

Turn gnoll fangs in to teh barb warrior chick in halas. You get about the same xp, and a heck of a lot more plat. 5 gold per tooth plus maybe a lantern or ration that sells for a couple more gold. So up to 7-8 gold per tooth, not bad when you can get 40 or so teeth in an hour or so. Makes killing the green gnolls even worthwhile. XP is good on regular toons til 14 or so, but it slows down on hybrids a lot faster with that 40% penalty. Stops moving significantly at 12 or so for them.

I sold all the belts/pads I rolled on and was still barely paying for my spells at that level (druid). The damn things are expensive!

Cool thanks guys, I've managed to save up 7pp so far, and have a bag worth of belts to sell now too. good to know about the cracked staff/fist damage, I've found a staff on a skele already too.

I went ahead and tried to look up monk fist damage and I found this site http://www.monkly-business.net/index...geid=abilities
However, I don't know if that's accurate for classic, or if fist scaling has changed on live.

Our wiki is pretty reliable....of course everything should be taken with a grain of salt.
monk h2h ratios

Another good resource is the wayback machine. Look up sites between 99 and 2000. Remember that Velious came out in Dec 2000.
