![]() Hey guys,
Have a question. I am level 14 now, and I am having a super hard time soloing anything above light blue. Even dark blue mobs beat the snot out of me. Does it get any better for Rangers? I figure once I get dual wield and double attack it should? I didn't think I would have this much trouble. I have full banded mail and a dragon horn ykesha. /shrug. Thanks for reading!

![]() It isn't just rangers. You think warriors can solo? Hahah!
Game mechanics in everquest are horrible for melee. Unless you can kite you need a healer and a slower. Even with incredible twink gear you can only go so long before you have to spend all your plat on bandages. Thats why everyone on live boxes, here you have to find a group.

![]() Yeah soloing at that level isn't that productive. I recommend either finding a group (oasis, befallen, upper guk are good candidates) or begging for buffs in EC and then soloing in WC.
Dual Wield at 17 and Double Attack at 20 are a big increase in power - you should be able to take down dark blue mobs solo without much of a problem. I did 20-25 in the Overthere and 25-35 in Sol A. You also get MUCH more powerful at level 30 because of Shield of Thistles. It's only 6 per hit, but the difference is night and day. You kill much faster and take less damage because of that. You also get Stinging Swarm which means you can kill anything which can be rooted. It's not that efficient for leveling but it is nice if you run into a rare spawn which you can't melee but you can land spells on. 30 is probably the most powerful I have been soloing. I'm 44 now so mobs are much tougher but I can still melee down the weaker dark blue mobs and kill anything rootable if i'm patient. 39 doesn't give you much for combat, but it does let you (finally) sow and gives you a decent heal. Next level I'm looking forward to is 46 so I can get infinite arrows from Tolan's Bracer for root and shoot. Grouping is pretty much always faster, but it is nice to be able to solo in a pinch. Starting your own groups is the way to go. Rangers duo very well with pretty much every class except Wizard, so find a partner and start killing and add to the group as LFG people show up.

![]() I do group most of the time, but like you said, there are times you just want to log on, and kill a few mobs.
It's nice to hear it does get better. Cheers,

![]() Having digested the fact that it will get better, realize that it will get worse again later. Rangers are not one of the best classic soloing classes. But hey, if you want to play one, that should not stop you.

![]() You can root mobs and shoot them with a bow. Ranger soloing is highly dependent on gear which is why most people don't play one as a first character. I know a ranger who soloed from 1-50 in classic but he had Rubi BP, FBSS, dual SSoYs, etc.

![]() That Dragon Horn Ykesha won't be particularly useful to you until your late L30's when it start procing. If you can find a Polished Granite Tomahawk, that will help you out in solo situations because of the damage absorbing proc it has (which starts at level 10). On P99, it also has the strange effect of healing you a little in addition to the absorption effect .. using it when soloing with my Shadow knight thru the teens, I would engage light blues instead of sitting to heal myself. Be sure to switch the PGT out in group situations if you're not the tank, as Berserker Strength pulls aggro considerably well [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

![]() Level 1 to 11 whatever your used to doing normaly just dont become kos to frogs in upper guk.
level 11 to 19 Groups always prefered but Upper guk Crocs are a god send for us rangers to solo. 11 to 15 front 2 crocs from entrance hug right wall and you will enter water and come to an alcove before heart spiders. one croc here thier another one that patrol water near by so carefull when you kill one in alcove as crocs here are social. when you have those 2 dead move to jail and kill 3 trolls prisoners in the jail cells. Respawn timer on all these mobs 15min solo ranger can do all these in 15min but will be tight. Gear : when i did this had Whip of stranglation and 13 , 14 ,15 had sword of skyfire. your millage may vary. I was wearing banded , silverplated bracers, collar of undead protection and dark mail guantlets, watch boots from north karana quest. BIND WOUNDS SKILL MUST BE MAXXXED. ** The follow crocs you need to pul with bow just watch that they are not near each other cuase they will agro as long as they are as far apart as the one are in Jail pool then they should come solo **** 15 to 20 2 crocs in jail 2 croc in the tank with 3 planks on the way to AC camp or first tank /pool area after you ran past the summoners room. 3 crocs in water before AC camp. THESE CROCS can hit hard doubel 30. I could solo 3 to 4 of them but was most amazing when i could get my druid friend to join me or convice a druid to come join me. HOpe this helps 20 to 25 warsilks woods iksar manslayer camp near FOB by this point you have harmony single pull all day !!! experiment with style of solo you like here. PS when i could get druid to join for the 15 to 20 crocs the xp i gained far exceded what i would get in groups in oasis
