Looks like this wasn't the only merchant in the freeport area who changed factions? My usual recharge merchant in NFP won't talk to my dark elf enchanter anymore.

you can't hit mobs in sky, and if you do somehow get aggro mobs fly around aimlessly without attacking

edit: also spells say "you can't see this mob" etc etc - you can hit them with javs though
