I missed that jib, so are you saying the south didn't really care about maintaining slavery, or that the north didn't really care about ending it?

So nostalgia and I were talking about the party flip, and how lincon was a republican (but he lived in new york so he must have actually been a democrat) and how the south is made up of conservatives and because the south is racist that means conservatives were actually fighting for the confederacy.
So I pointed out that what is known on the internet as the "party flip" was actually a change in party platforms of the democratic party.
The democrats have always been a more progressive bunch, and the republicans were more conservative. This is true. However in the 1700's slavery and brand new technlogies, industrial farming, these were the ground breaking new technlolgies of their time, the tech boom of today, but in the 1700's.
And like the tech boom of today, the same like minded progressive, futurists that make up the democrat party today, made up the democrat party leading up to the civil war.
Plantation farming on an industrial scale was the hottest and most amazing new thing. They didnt look at as wrong, they looked at it as more efficient.
Then the republicans up north who didnt rely on slave labor, decided to put an end to the immoral practice. This enraged the progressive liberals, and they started a civil war to stop the conservatives from ending their futurist progressive lifestyle.
The party platform change from small goverment democrats to big goverment evolved over decades after the civil war leading up to the election of FDR in the 1930s. America expanded into the west, and the spread of industrial farming became the most modern form of progressive futurism. But without slaves, and with the vast expansse of the west, the futurist progressives building farms and cities out in there decided they NEEDED big goverment after all, because they needed infrastructure.
Now why is the south racist then, if that's where the conservatives live, and the north liberal if that's where the republicans live?
Because 150 years ago, the conservatives lived in the old colonies, while the progressives forged the new lands and built the plantations of the south.
Over teh next 150 years, the cities became progressive as the world globalized and trade became our "new fronteer" after we completed the expansion of the west. Now the people left in the south, are all the old conservatives that the democrats left behind to expand into the west, and that's why they are sticking to their old ways. Because conservatives tend to not expand, and stay where they were, and not change their ways.
I know it's a long read but the fact that the SAME political ideologies that I profess started civil war 1, are now starting civil war 2 should indicate that this is at least something you should consider when picking a side.
