Lol... he missed a non-moving target... twice!

Thanks for that though!

I think you could fire bolt spells *without a target* chosen, and they would just go in the direction you were facing (forever until they hit something (like a mob or a mountain or the edge of the zone)). Is that correct?

Seems to have been the case during beta. Reminds me of one of the games in the Might & Magic series (forget which one)

That is correct. Targeted they had a range, not targeted they would hit and damage whatever they had contact with.

I can second this as being the case in live...I remember firing the level 1 ice bolt spell because a blue ice orb was the result, and it looked cool =)

If you never fix it, I benefit =) Why?

1) Bolt spells for wizards have 100 more range (300) than regular nukes (200), so they make great openers
2) Bolt spells used to get borked if you fired with another mob inbetween, another PC inbetween, or at a mob that was at a sharp incline or decline from you, if the mob moved over a hill, etc - you had to be more careful with them. Right now, I can use them like regular nukes without worry [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
I regards to 2).
I remember archery working the same way.
You could hit a mob that was passing in between you and your target, also if PC's could block LoS from a target.
I remember these were change at some point, but not when.

Loved the bolt spells as well, I recall rolling a wizard very early on in Live.
Some one cast a lev on me and I would get as high as I could to cast bolt spells on mobs because it would fire down at them.

Seems pretty exploitable to me.

Imagine the trains you could cause in certain outdoor zones. Once you get the coordinates and direction down you could hit something from a mile away, let the mob gather all his buddies en-route, wait till they are within eye-shot of you then zone out. Then zone back in to see what unsuspecting players get slaughtered by the mobs pathing back through the zone.

Alright maybe it wouldn't be a huge train in classic. I can think of a few places in Kunark though that would be downright sick.

I remember them changing the mechanic sometime at the end of Velious. I could care less about the collision, I just miss the huge fireballs. I think that is the general consensus as well.

firebolt and frostbolt were the coolest particle effects in the game IMO. I used to love to use it on pvp servers because in nektulos forest you could be out of visual range and still hit the target (provided a tree or mob wasn't in the way). The de-leveled pricks used to get furious at my fireballz hahaha [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Yes archery was line of sight, too. I think even in Kunark it was LOS cuz I remember a ranger in karnor's complaining for us to move out of the way so he could get a shot.
