the only thing vicious here is the escalating to incitement, threats, and justification of violence. it's not a cycle; it's a discrete action which people of poor character revel in doing when mob fervor builds to a critical mass and malice becomes socially acceptable. there is no cycle outside of yourself which needs to be broken.

you are correct that it is a reasonable question. however, it memed at least in part because it appeals to racists, dumbbell. it is impossible to deny that the racism angle played into the thing without being a hack.
