![]() This is only a dream thread of what would be nice to do with a custom EQ classic server. I would like to add, I am not requesting the classic server be customized. There has been discussions to what will happen after Velious has been released for quite sometime and if they did customize I would hope a new server that is purely as classic as possible is released starting back at the beginning.
After saying this, I think there is one thing WoW did right .. I know some people may stop right there. Instancing, I think all raid target zones should be instanced if possible and the drop rate for items reduced dramatically to compensate for the increased availability. I am thinking cut the drop rate by 70-90% but this would give all guilds a chance to face these creatures that they wouldn't otherwise get to. Another way they could do the instanced raid loot would be to make it no drop and only available to the raid in the instance. Something to consider if the server ever goes custom. Would be nice to see what others improvements upon classic would be. Maybe a class you think should be designed a little differently or some other mechanic. Again, I think a classic server should exist in this world untouched for all of us EQ fans, this is what if thread at best. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

![]() Yeah, instancing has been suggested before, and I'd be for it, if I cared at all for the content at that level. When I started P99, I made a promise to myself to never being involved in the raid scene as it ruins the fun, imo.
Those against instancing say it spoil competition, which they think is a key part of the game. It's funny though, I played EQ live for 5 years and never encountered this thing called "competition," especially how it seems to be be played here. The only competition was the race to certain mobs to beat another guild. Never, ever saw any of this training that I hear about. That sort of griefing wasn't really tolerated by GMs when I played EQ live.

![]() I haven't had to put up with the end game grief yet but I always hear about it. I hate instancing, I hate what it does to a community, just like LFG tools where people sit in one city and just click their LFG and wait for a group and then go to their instance. I loathe it.
EQ had/has a community because it doesn't hold your hand and give you the easy route to things. At least in classic. So I disagree, that is not the one thing WoW did right. Don't get me wrong, I spent many years enjoying WoW. but it killed MMO's and put them in the sad state they are today, if only because other developers couldn't be bothered to try and come up with something and just tried to copy WoW's success. No instances please.

![]() Vanguard did non-instancing pretty well. I don't think of DoN as classic and wouldn't want to see any kind of instancing here.

![]() I wouldn't have minded instancing so much if it was handled like how some MMOs do it. For example, instead of having just one Sebilis zone, you generate a new Sebilis zone when the first one peaks at 50 players or something, and start filling that one.
A good example was Champions Online and zones like Millenium City, or Dungeons and Dragons Online's Stormreach (and most public areas). Shame it won't happen here since I doubt the technology is capable of doing it with EQ1.

That said, I'd rather never see instancing here. It's gone from bad (dungeon instancing: LDON, WoW) to awful (Age of Conan where every area in the game is instanced).

It's instancing, but it's still public so it doesn't take away the community aspect. But at least it might alleviate the currently dismal raid scene we have now.

![]() The current raid scene isn't dismal only due to the lack of instancing--although instancing would surely fix it. It's dismal also in part because it's populated by a significant number of so-called adults who apparently never learned how to share. EQ is a fairly open ended game and the high end is what the players make it.
I consider instancing a generally good tool that's overused in some other games. However I don't seriously suggest its adoption here simply because it's contrary to the purpose of P1999. Danth

![]() Instancing vs LDoN... well the rewards during LDoN for instance farming weren't too great, it was more about the prestige of people who completed the challenges 100s/1000s of times...not to mention having something to do [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
Maybe instancing would be fun... but what about Guk? Will you have to travel through an instance to get to an instance? Or are we talking about an NPC stood outside Upper Guk/EC who will port you in or something? [You must be logged in to view images.
