Level 17 druid: where and how to solo/duo?
Root rotting has been working well up to this point, but now I think I want to try charming. My druid on live did a lot of grouping and quadding, but never really charmed. How is it done, and where should I be right now? If a friend is added into the mix (say a necro), how would I go about this? Would charming still be best, or should we both just dot and kite around?
Advice is greatly appreciated, thanks [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

not a druid (chanter) but some basic tips for charming, specifically solo. Generally you wanna keep things rooted or snared to reduce your risk of bad things happening when charm breaks randomly. That includes your pet. Druid is good at both obviously, and running away too.
Second, a big one, is managing the exp penalty. If you charm something you want two things to beat each other almost to death, then you want to kill your pet FIRST then the target mob. The reason is if your pet kills the target first, you'll lose half the exp to pet penalty (this only happens solo). By breaking and killing your pet, you get full exp for your pet, and then full exp for the target. It's a bit of added risk but well worth it. Also, anything that reduces your pet's MR will increase your charm duration. As a duo, things change a lot. If you're fear kiting with a necro you can keep the same pet perpetually or until it gets hurt too much (no pet exp penalty). You just want the DPS. With that in mind a pet that is easier to hold for long periods is probably your best bet. But again this is coming from an enchanter and I know my charm strats work differently from yours. Finaly, as mentioned oasis is a great place as a druid to experiment with it. Good luck!

The other part not mentioned is the use of fear. If you charm a pet, attack a mob, snare it and then fear the mob, the pet beats down on it without recieving any damage. Meanwhile you're medding and will probably be at full mana or close to it. When the mob gets down below 20, back your pet off and continue pulling another mob. When it becomes too hectic to keep doing this, find a mob and do the above (let them both wail on each other, root the mob). When one gets below 20%, back your pet off, invis (to break charm), root (or snare depending of it's below 20) your pet and then nuke each mob you have snared to get half a bar of xp if not more with one bar of mana.
It took me awhile to egt the hang of this - have a zoneline handy and be prepared to initially lose some xp until you get the hang of it. Once you fo though, its amazing.

I found that duoing with someone and fear kiting animals is extremely fast. If you pair up with someone who can fear, all you have to do is supply the snare. Then you can utilize a charmed pet, or DoTs depending on your preference.
You get Snare at level 1, Panic Animal at level 1, and Terrorize Animal at 14.

Not sure that charming is really worth it at 17, considering the pet xp nerf. At lower levels you need to be charming mobs closer to your level, which means charm will be breaking more.
At 17 I just decked myself out in high armor class, got a decent weapon and used stinging swarm and thorns. If you can find a spot where you can stay in treeform that will speed things up heaps because you wont need to heal yourself (much). Just learn to strafe run because you wont have sow if you get into trouble. The huts in oasis might be worth trying. Or one of the pillars in oasis. Charming works well at 29 for a number of reasons. You have ensnare. You have a new charm. Your pets dual wield. ensnare target, keep it agrod with flame lick. Pet attacks from behind. Good way to get your evo skill up for lightning strike (which is much better xp)
