Default Monk aggro

Is it just me or is monk aggro completely out of whack? As a warrior with good dex and two O-shards, I have no chance whatsoever of getting aggro even occasionally except for the brief duration after a succesful taunt. It seems way out of proportion to the monk's actual DPS which, while good, does not warrant the kind of aggro that they appear to generate. I can sometimes proc several times without the mob switching over despite having been attacking it for the exact same amount of time as the monk. I've noticed this in every group that had one in it, and I've come to suspect that their special strikes have an inherent aggro bonus on top of the damage. I have far less trouble with rogues, even though they presumably do comparable DPS. Monk aggro is just so rock-solid that it takes an actual taunt or obscene luck with procs to have any hopes of grabbing it, and they'll usually take it right back after a moment. Has anyone else noticed this?

In live, I remember monks FDing regularly while DPSing because of this problem while I was tanking. In PoP, this had gotten better, but when I played a monk, I still had to FD while fighting to wipe my aggro.

I've noticed this too. I'm able to use flash of light to taunt aggro from pretty much everything, including rogues, but I was grouped with two monks and the aggro kept bouncing between the three of us. I could snag aggro right after a flash, but the mob would turn to one of the monks very quickly afterwards. I don't think monk DPS is *that* huge so that procs, and high aggro spells are still ineffective in keeping aggro.

Ah, if it's instant after FoL and such, then that does sound different from live.

i am not sure how aggo work but monk can take aggo away from a warrior with 2 yaks if you don't give him enough time to build aggo and FD.

what you can do is tell the monk
1. wait for assist call , 2. FD during the fight
or reroll a shadowknight....

and also monk have a very high AC ( if u keep your weight down ), in early game monk got AC higher than tank...i would say monk is kind of tank + dps hybrid.

for a long time on classic monks were barefisted though, and almost noone used 1hb weapons - the fists innate delay is higher than the good 1hb afaik - if the monks in your group now are already dual weilding 1hbs with low delay etc, could that be the case?

I think this is the issue. On Live at this point in the game, Monks did not have as much access to low delay weapons. Using fists, I never take aggro, but 2 EBMs mean I am taking hits if I dont wait a LONG time to engage after the tank. And I dont even have FD yet.

as a career monk during the velious days on live, i can say for certain that this used to happen on live

Usually this wasn't a problem for me becuase i actually did very little actual fighting. I spent most of my time running out and collecting mobs to kill (both in xp groups and in raids)

however, when i did have to DPS i always had to wait 5 secs in an xp grp and then FD after 10 more seconds. on a raid all non tank melee waiting 10 seconds. i waited 10 more seconds before i started, then hit FD every cooldown

as a test one time on a vindi fight i waited until vindi was at 70% health before i started fighting. I didn't FD and i bagged agro when vindi was at 15% health. I did pull him (pull agro), but i was FD for the first 30%

Monks aren't overpowered, warriors are broken until the taunt fix. Warriors also benefit from itemization in later expansions.

Warriors have *always* had problems maintaining aggro, but they make up for it by being the best mitigating tank for raid mobs.

SK/Pal have no problem keeping aggro in longer fights.
