Default OT Hammer Quest on Red

Hey guys,

Quick question for those who have an OT hammer on Red99, how did you do it?

Did you simply grind the faction required to do the quest? The reason I'm asking is twofold.

1. As we cannot recharge items, I would imagine the availability and use of puppet strings to be a lot rarer. This is the only quick way of getting the Amiably faction required for the quest.

2. On Live, my (human) monk had an OT hammer. I certainly don't remember grinding faction for the quest. The way I remember it is I simply used sneak to turn in the jade for the hammer. The quest must have required indifferently then because it would be impossible if I am remembering correctly.

Plz halp.

I should mention I'm old now and my memory blows. I'm almost certainly not remembering it correctly...

Most people just buy a puppet string charge for 10k, and as a monk, I'm pretty sure you can sneak/fd to do the turn in's to bypass the faction at the beginning.

Foreman has to be amiable or higher here for the turn in, so sneaking him a jade won't work.

Yes, the quest does require Amiable faction with Venril Sathir (OT outpost). There are only 2 ways to get to Amiable faction: raise faction via questing, illusions, and faction spell/song; or charm the mob. Here's how I'd break it down:
A. Charm the mob (enchanter, bard, or necromancer)
B. Charm the mob using puppet strings, which go for 10k but are very rare - CT has been dead on arrival for many months on Red, so if you're not in a guild that can contest whatever guild kills it, you can try to buy a charge
C. Faction up by turning in Sarnak braids, etc (pretty doable for evil races or rogues with a Dark Elf mask - 120 braids; no idea how grueling it would be as a non-evil race)
D. Faction up by killing mobs in VP

Outdoor kunark dragons also give VS faction hits - might be able to find a small guild that does these and just throw a dagger at one for a big faction hit

Hrmm, I did have a Guise of the Deceiver. I wonder if this made a difference?

Either way, the path is clear.

Thanks red friends.
