Default Rofl... EQN is dead, and Pantheon is alive?

The world is upside down. Looking more and more like Quaid and his team is actually producing something good, somehow. http://www.pantheonmmo.com/

Meanwhile, Smedley's Disney-World-Minecraft-Everquest is dead as a door nail. Good riddance to that garbage.

Color me more than a little surprised at this twist of fate. Smedley destroyed, McQuaid potentially victorious? I put this is on the same level as Bruce Jenner turning out to be a woman inside.

I'm gonna hold off on hype till I see an early build. It sounds good though.

To be fair, Brad McQuaid kept to himself after making a few mistakes. He just kept making MMOs the way he wanted to without anyone else stopping him. I can admire that.

Whereas SOE/Daybreak payed for Storybricks, which is arguably akin to signing Sam Bradford to your Football team and having him injure himself and have nothing to show for the season... snake oil salesmen come to mind. Storybricks was sold up to be more than what it actually was. Realistically, I have my doubts that anyone can make advanced AI like Storybricks was describing in a gameplay scenario.

Brad just focused on what he loves to do: make games. No angel investors, and that may have pissed a few people off that he was working with, but they're just not used to what he had to do to get EverQuest off the ground.

With regard to angel investors - Brad was pleading for some about a year back.

PS: I really hate linking this as the idea is silly but Unity is hands down the easiest framework to work with. It's no wonder Brad & team had no issues making an MMO in Unity.

I wrote a websockets API based on the one Akkadius made, and hooked it up to EQEmulator and made a bridge between a Unity client and an EQEmulator server.

People laughed at Tyen but I laughed more at how easy it was to do this. Maybe a week of work at most.

Pantheon is going to be the return to form for the MMO genre. Count on it.

I don't think anyone can fully appreciate Pantheon until you've read the 1700 page thread on rerolled.org about it. Has been one mental rollercoaster for the dudes making this game.
