Default Returning and picking a main

Hey guys,

After months away from the glory that is p99 I cant seem to get enough and am back for more! Any recommendation on the following classes with the current state of the game? I'll prolly end up playing two, a main and an alt, but I have as follows:

Enchanter
Monk
Rogue
Magician

I like all four of these classes but cant decide which to focus on. I have a good understanding of the role that they perform but have been away from the game for a while so am not sure how they fare in the present day and if they are viable or not. Any advice on which ones would be worth the trip to 60 and which ones are just overplayed, and/or too weak to bother with?

Thanks in advance!

Mage and Ench will be easier to play of starting from scratch.

Monks are a fun dynamic class.

I've never played a rogue, don't plan on it as aside from sneak/hide they're way too one dimensional. Stand behind mob autoattack and click backstab.

The other 3 classes have more gameplay options available - solo, duo, multiple roles you can fill etc.

I main a rogue and I enjoy it. Class is highly sought after for both grouping and especially raiding. The are pretty straight forward and repetitive though when it comes to combat and it can get boring at times. The utility of the class is fun though with corpse dragging, picklocking, and such. Rogue is definitely viable. If raiding is important to you pick this class for sure out of the 4 you listed.

Enchanter is a great choice for main too due to incredible ability to solo. At 60 Enchanter can solo some super nice cash camps.

Monk is a fun class but probably the most popular class on the server. Good dps, can kinda tank, best pullers generally.

Magician is desired at 60 for raids to both coth and mod rod. They also can solo some nice cash camps like the Enchanter but not quite as well.

Really depends on what you want to do.

None of those will be bad choices. Enchanter will be the most powerful by a longshot. Mage will be very easy to play and learn. All 4 are great grouping classes, but rogue and mage will be laid back while enchanter and monk will be 'always on'. Rogue will only ever be able to do anything grouped so if you wanted to be able to solo don't go rogue.

Play whatever you like. Rogue is the toughest of the four, because they are gear AND group dependent while being unable to solo to acquire said gear. The other three should be just fine and are good pickups for any group.

Running both an an enchanter and a monk won't hurt: when one can't find a group or you don't feel like soloing on it, you can hop onto the other. I do that with my wizard (33) and ranger (40) [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Pick Enchanter or Mage to main (both are cheap to gear and can easily farm plat) and Monk or Rogue as the alt (both are gear dependent and bad at farming plat).

Ench and Mage also both solo and group extremely well, whereas Monks and Rogues (at least untwinked) are much more group/duo reliant.

Chanters are great, but boring to raid on. Same for mages.

Melee classes get crazy good loot and have all the fun in Velious.

Everyone loves rogues, and if you love to group...you'll never be without one.

This is why I love p99.. The community! Thank you all for the responses. I guess I should have mentioned that rogue is already level 47 with epic and fungi and chanter and Mage are 30 with okay gear.. I think I'll main rogue and alt the chanter for the time being. Will be nice to log on the chanter when the rogue can't find a group. As far as Mage vs chanter.. Are mages better end game now than in Kunark? I haven't played much velious but I remember in the past mages got a bad rap as an anti social class not good for groups or raids beyond coth and mod rods whereas chanters were always gods gift to groups.
