Default Comparisons between EQ Live, P99, and EQ Live Phinigel?

Hi all,

Having never progressed extremely far on any EQ... I would appreciate a comparison.

I was playing on EQ Live on Cazic Thule and really enjoy how the Mines of Gloomingdeep provide great assistance getting started.

At the same time, I read Phinigel is Time-Lock, and I'm curious - Is that a lot like P99? What's the differences?

I'm also very curious being that Phinigel requires a subscription to play, and being that its time-locked I'm very curious if its in a very similar state as P99?

Being a fan of open source software and community driven projects, from my perspective I'd rather give the occasional donation to the P99 team to keep their work alive versus a monthly fee to DBG.

With all that aside, I guess my question is all in the title as well as being curious if Phinigel and P99 are almost identical in nature being that they are all "Classic EQ"?

Thanks so much

Not at all, p99 is basically bare bones eq and phinny is updated for ts age.
I.e. color target window on phinny, and on p99, you must physically consider the mob to know its's level range to you.

Other than interface I'm more so curious about gameplay.

I have limited experience, my interest in EQ started when Planes of Power came out... mother came home with it for me... My memories are limited, going out and killing skeletons then making runs to loot my dead corpse, over and over...

I think that was in like 2003... I played on and off but shortly after EQ2 came out and then that became my obsession for a while, shifting between EQ2 and WoW.

My main interest is in the sense of community. P99 community seems much closer than EQ Live... which is what keeps it at my attention.

The best place for you would have been eq mac i bet.

If real eq live could roll back into full classic, I would pay to play it just to cruise around.

I don't see them doing it though.

I was actually on EQ Mac for a while... right when they switched over to Intel, I had my Mac Mini 1,1 and I remember Rosetta having issues at first, later worked.

I found it fun when I could find people to group with, but in the end I seem to have been having issues finding others - very low population.

I'm actually on my MacBook Pro now - I have EQ Live running using PlayOnMac.

Also a lot of people were quitting when POP and Luclin came out.

Speaking from my own personal experience, almost all of my friends in game left to go play Dark Age of Camelot which was not representative of the failure of Luclin but more just wanting something new. Most of us had played a ridiculous number of hours for 3+ years and were ready to move on. Some of us came back to play Luclin and PoP, but EQ never felt the same again, the magic was gone forever.

I really don't know the era... having been away so long, explaining it to me really wouldn't mean anything to me...

I'll have to devote the next few days to P99 and give it a fair chance, and just not even try Phinigel, which is probably best for me now.
