Default Getting going with someone who hasn't played before

Hi all,

Played EQ from 1999-2004, then like 2013-2017 on live. Wanting to come back for the classic experience, and this time with someone who has never played it outside of a level 55 beastlord on live that was powerleveled. I recognize that the enjoyment for myself (as well as many others I'm sure) is nostalgia first and foremost, but would anyone recommend a good start to get going and immerse a first timer?

Duo suggestions are greatly appreciated, as well as info on how to just get in and enjoy it.

Looking for any pointers! Thanks!

Hozabout you as a shaman and the new person a monk leezards. That is a good duo.

I was thinking that myself, wasn't sure if there might be more decent duo, as I am doubtful we'll even make it to level 60, but if so, are there other good combos? Druid/enchanter? Necro/mage? It's been so long since I played classic I don't even remember how it feels to not have all the modern conveniences.

Monk/Shaman is always a great duo
Enchanter/Cleric is another one
Enchanter/Druid has lots of potential too

What are you looking to do? Would you be happier leveling in dungeons? Full six man groups? Would you rather hunt outdoors? Maybe two man camps for gear as you level?

Those are great suggestions, thanks! Being that I am relatively experienced, and my partner is not whatsoever, I'd ideally like to two man camps as well as overland kill and dip into dungeons occasionally.

Talk with your partner about the druid and cleric. See which playstyle they would prefer to learn. Cleric will be easier but also stronger once they learn the ins and outs. Druid will be a more active playstyle as well as making travel a breeze.

She's chosen a druid, and I'm going to play an enchanter. Got lucky and a necro was killing guards, leaving weapons so we were able to get a two-handed sword and sell for 20pp! Spells should be covered for a few levels at least, hoping this is a viable duo for two-man camps.

This should be in some newbie guide somewhere. I have made about 30pp on shields left on dead halfling guards so far

Enchanter druid is a great combo and also gives her a very capable class on her own that isn't dependant on playing with others, where as enc / cleric is more "meta" the cleric isn't very capable to play alone

Plus you will be able to go anywhere together very quickly with ports

Yeah I thought so too, should have a lot of things in our toolkit playing together. Really not sure our best way to utilize our skills to kill effectively, like whether we should dual charm, or root/rot, etc.
