Default Extraordinary Act of Kindness

I was part of an excellent group on Orc Hill this evening for some time. We were doing very well together. Then all of a sudden out of nowhere comes this Cleric named Gramaton <Mercs of Norrath>. We offer to give him donations for good buffs but he replies "no need to donate" then proceeds to buff us with Bravery and other fun stuff. We thank him heartily and we proceed to kick orc butt. After a few minutes he comes back and starts handing out gear to everyone. He gave me 5 pieces of bronze armor and a bracer of battle also a Dwarven 2 Handed Axe. This was a significant upgrade all in all to a level 3 Paladin. Haha. He gave out several other pieces of good armor to my other groupmates before moving along on his way.

I was floored by this extraordinary act of kindness. It's great to see someone come out and help others like that with absolutely nothing in return but thanks and /bow /cheer.

I've seen some people say they didn't like Mercs of Norrath but I saw a really good side to at least one of their members which spoke volumes to me.

Thanks again to Gramaton for making my night. I can't wait to keep playing!

Thats all well and good and I give the guy props for wanting to be nice but I think hes hurting you. I hope you soon realise just how harsh this server's community is and you learn to play under those conditions. This isnt the live EQ we knew 1999-2001 or however long you played. People have grown much more greedy and less charitable which was likely caused by today's MMO's like WoW. Everyone has lost patience becuase they are not use to needing it anymore and it always frustrates others who are patient which in return makes those people inpatient as well. Bottom line is, this server is cut throat so you better have a hidden dagger ready to stab someone else in the back like everyone else [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.].

This is just ridiculous. What we need is more acts of kindness and more appreciation of such, not promotion of the idea of backstabbing everyone. Helping a new player is harmful? That's utter bull.

When I was a lowbie people did exactly the same thing for me and ya know what it did? It made me appreciate them, and remember them when some jackhole screwed me over. And it caused me to commit acts of kindness to others. This is what needs to be promoted on this server.

It's not that people have lost patience or grown more greedy across the boards. It's more that you've become more suspicious and cynical because of the few who are and always have been.

Personally, I commend the charitable deed and the OP giving praise for such. And will give free ports to Gramaton to show my appreciation.

I don't know what he's talking about - everyone I've encountered has been very friendly.

Do they tolerate beggars or people that just don't carry their weight? No, probably not, but I haven't seen any of this cutthroat greed you're talking about - it most likely exists in the raiding game and frankly that's the downside to everything being global instead of instanced.

Interesting view you have there. Interestingly skewed, that is.

Sounds to me like you've been spending too much time around raiding guilds and in RnF. Other than those two debaucheries, I find the in-game community generally pretty sensible.

A large part of how you see the community depends on how you yourself interact with people. Treat people the way you want to be treated. If you are kind in how you present yourself, you will get a kind response and have a pleasant experience.

It all comes down to playstyle. There is a huge chunk of players like Brad_Mo123 who are all about insanely long camps for uber crazy items, or hardcore raiding 24/7. The worst of the worst won't give you the time of day, will not want you anywhere near their camp, and would rather destroy extra items then give them away. That's just how it is.

But there is also a high number of players who just enjoy playing the game. Random quests, grouping, helping others, handing out gear to the little ones, etc.

Each playstyle still results in fun and personal fulfillment. And the latter is a lot....and I mean a lot...less stressful.

This is entirely true, aside from the few griefing miscreants. Much like the old proverb:

In order to have friends, one must show themselves friendly. There are loads of good people on here that I owe a lot to.
