Default Alchemy Mats - Grobb??

So the patch said

Nilbog: Corrected alchemy vendor lists of Grobb and Oggok.

I am looking for clubmoss and jatamasi. Wiki says Grabah has them. But he doesnt. And the other vendors that are around him are all gone? whats going on? What/where are the other vendors? Is that stuff sold in grobb any more?

I would try Oggok if you can. That's where I usually Alchemy, and they had everything. This is probably not the case now though.

Worst case you'll probably need to go to Thurgadin if you aren't KoS to them. They sell everything.

I think it’s based off of religion, but haven’t tested this. My first troll shaman was a CT follower because I didn’t know about the snare necklace. I used to frequently go to oggok to buy bat wings while leveling at the pyramid in CT. No problem.

Second Shaman was an Inny follower and got absolutely rekt when he walked in to try and buy bat wings. I even died a second time trying to get my corpse ☠️ I never got attacked or killed on my CT troll shaman, so I’ve always assumed it was deity based etc.

The Ogre/Troll factions do have factions that hate each other if memory serves, so you do have to be careful with that as a troll going to oggok or an ogre going to grobb. I don't remember off hand what all of them were.

So basically for an ogre or troll shaman, the choice is go for Kael faction, or alchemy? Because you can't do both, unless you accept perpetually having to rely on ground transfers to get the mats...

And pre-Velious, only barbarian and iksar shaman can realistically do alchemy at all

Yeah it kind of sucks. My Ogre Shaman is on Kael faction right now. I don't do much alchemy anymore, so it doesn't bother me. But it will be a pain if I start again.

You could still buy the ingredients on one char who has thurg faction and drop-swap the ingredients to your Shaman. It's more complicated, but doable.

You can see for yourself; here's an archive of EQ Traders from June of 2000: https://web.archive.org/web/20000605...n/alchemy.html.

Verant feared and hated tradeskills, especially initially, so they made them difficult (and largely pointless). For instance, want to blacksmith as a Barbarian in classic? Get ready to run to Qeynos every time, because the molds are in Halas, but the ore is there. I think they saw the Grobb/Oggok split as being similar.

If it's any consolation, according to this bug thread, https://www.project1999.com/forums/s...d.php?t=425636, Barbarians shouldn't get all the alchemy components either, until September 2000 (ie. almost the end of the server).

Troll and Ogre shamans don't like eachother, so be careful of the guildmasters they will be Threatening.

You have to remember, DikuMUD (which EQ was largely based off) didn't even have tradeskills, so the very idea of having them in EQ was seen as new and controversial by the Verant devs. They were afraid that players crafting stuff would trivialize players killing stuff, and so they made tradeskills mostly useless.

Over time, as the player base complained, they started to embrace tradeskills more and more with each expansion. It eventually go to the point where, when they made their first non-EQ game (Star Wars Galaxies), maybe half the game was tradeskills!

But, back in classic, they really weren't a key part of the game; they were a tentatively added (almost) afterthought.
