Post Norrath Brewing - A Quest for Brews & Spirits

Edit: View the blog & site: http://norrathbrewing.com/

After I asked the forum folk what their favorite bars in Norrarth are, Alefia and I decided to set out on an adventure to visit every tavern in all the land. We documented our progress through screenshots, some of which you can find here. Along the way I also made an effort to collect every brew and spirit I found. In addition to that, I also decided to take up brewing as a tradeskill and have since reached a skill of nearly 200.

And here is the result:

It's true that a few are not drinkable, a couple are not alcohol, and one is even poison. There are also a few brew related books and other rarities. I am still missing some additional alcoholic drinks, though. I still have not visited bars in Grobb or Cabilis (though I did buy from merchants in FoB). A few which I have my eye on still are: Clockwork Oil Stout, Blood Spirits, Oblong Bottle, and am also interested in acquiring some other quest items such as Case of Spirits.

Alefia and I began the pub adventure in July, and I started to dabble in brewing come August. Since then, I have been tracking my progress using this blog. I did this to add some additional entertainment/collection value to the mostly useless skill of brewing, and also to keep record of information about classic recipes as I successfully brew them.

With all that information on hand, I've now been updating the P99 wiki's Brew page with all the classic recipes. It used to only have the 10 most basics, but now there are nearly 40. I know of a couple more that still need to be added, and there are handful of others that I am still trying to confirm if they are classic or not.

For the most part it was not all that difficult to sort through the non-classic recipes on eqtraders.com. Majority of them there actually are classic. A few tricked me though, such as JumJum Spiced Beer (all ingredients exist but the combine does not function), Armadillo Simmer Ale (have killed 50+ Armadillos in NRo and Oggok, and never saw one Husk or Meat), Underfoot Brown, Thubr's Darkened Ale, and Superior Lichen Spirits (ground spawns for those three don't seem to exist).

Anyway, I am posting here to share my collection screenshot, brew blog link, and the new pages on P99 wiki. Besides the brew recipes, I am also in the process of filling out a list of other alcoholic drinks which are not brewable. As an extension of that, I am also compiling the information and screen-shots that I collected during the initial visit to all the taverns.

The tavern wiki bit was not a part of my original mission, but it is equally enjoyable so far. I've always loved researching EQ lore, and this sort of gives me the opportunity to look closer at some of the details of these establishments and write my own analysis. A big part of my wiki entries so far are talking about the "Poker Paintings" which you have probably noticed in many of the taverns around Norrath. I've also briefly researched most of the NPCs that hang out in the various taverns and wrote a little bit about their related quests and lore.

Of course it is a Wiki so by all means feel free to add your own information as well. Also please let me know if there are other brews you know if that I have missed, I am still running across new things.

But yeah apparently I have way too much time on my hands. Actually I really don't. This is just the kind of thing I stay up till 3 AM doing.

Just wanted to say thanks for the rather cool and unique contributions to the wiki! I added a link on the mainpage to Poker Paintings [You must be logged in to view images. There is a distinct absence of You Mad Brew in your collection!

I just wasted an hour reading that whole blog and now I have to stay after work. I'll be buying every oddball kind of beer I can find at my liquor store on my way home tonight.

No kidding...I had no clue there were so many recipes in classic.

So...can someone clue me in on the point of a high alcohol tolerance? I heard it is supposed to make you be able to drink more before experiencing ill effects, but I have yet to see that in game...
