Default A Couple Tradeskill Questions

Okay have two questions: Can fishing go beyond 200? And out of Brewing/Baking/Tailoring/Smithing which of these would prove most useful and worthy of being taken beyond 200?

Well.. Fishing I'm not sure about post 200... But I did a fair amount of tradeskilling in the live classic era. I can tell you that tailoring can be quite profitable, once vellious comes out, but that getting your tailoring skill past 200 will be several orders of magnitude harder than you likely think, and several orders harder than , say, leveling to 50. At the moment, pre-kunark, there are no tailoring recipies in game to take you past 200 in tailoring.

Smithing is also hard to do post 200, but is also somewhat rewarding, if you really stick to it, but less so than tailoring. I believe that the high level smithing recipies are also Kunark or later

Baking is mostly for show and roleplaying, also hard to get past 200. At some point, they introduced foods that upped your stats, not sure if that was Luclin or Velious though. That food did have some utility value.

Brewing im no expert on, except insofar as it relates to tailoring.

Basically, any "serious" tradeskilling, like everything else in classic EQ, is Hard. It is not something to do on a lark, it requires alot of investment in time and money upfront.

Low level tradekilling, basically any of them up to say around 80-100, is not TOO hard to do, and along those lines Id recommend tailoring, I guess, for the ability to make 10 slot bags at least.

You didnt mention jewelcraft, which was always the most "complete" tradeskill, implementation wise in classic, I believe you can get all the way to 250 and the high end stuff has value to players. But expect to dump ALOT of plat into getting there, like thousands. maybe tens of.

try www.eqtraders.com for tradeskill info, but be aware that the site is still active and has alot of post Veliious material.

Also, some of the implementaion of tradeskills is off on p99, I understand for instance that Wu's Armor is availiable now, while on Live that came out in Kunark.

in reguards to baking, there are items you can make that have stat boosts in game already. i'v been working on making one toon do all tradeskills except baking and fishing. as yukona stated you need alot of money to invest in tradeskilling, JC is the worst plat pit ever but well worth it. if you do decied to get into JC i reccomend making an enchanter so you can enchant your own metal bars without having to pray for and pay someone to do it for you

thanks for the replies guys. I hadn't forgotten about JC, my chanter is doing that and is only around 150ish atm. My main is gonna be doing the other tradeskills I mentioned. I have maxed brewing atm, have baking and tailoring at 90ish and have almost maxed fishing. I haven't started pottery or smithing yet but I plan on doing them too. I want to get them all to 200 but from what I've gathered I can only choose one to go beyond that point so I was merely curious what others felt was the most useful. you say tailoring is the most useful later on? of all the skills this one seems to appeal to me the least but if it is seriously the most useful through kunark/velious then I might still go that route

Fishing never went beyond 200. Even on live I'm still 200/200. I went through a couple months ago and looked to see how all of the old skill caps had changed.

Right now you don't have the means in game to raise most skills above 200, and won't until velious (tailoring, blacksmithing specifically). So it would be wise to just hover until then since realistically, nothing required 200+ in classic. (JC was modelled differently) Currently, JC is the only tradeskill with a reason to go over 200. So patience is the word if you expect to keep your main your tradeskiller and want to go after velium leathers or some such.

Classic Jewelcraft was a completely different animal.

In classic the cap was 200, jewelcraft was the only tradeskill to go above 200 for a very long time, but it had humble beginnings and was originally designed not to go over 200. It originally scaled differently and had fewer possible gem combinations. Blue diamonds were only for quests and didn't combine, and most combinations made different things.

Here's a chart of the old combinations (bottom of page), trivials went 3 5 8 10 13 15 18 20, up to 200. 78 combines, two broken recipes, and a new trivial every 2.5 points, rounded up.
