Its one of my biggest pet peeves in regards to any game that spans over years and includes multiple expansions. Increasing character level and item power over 1 or 2 expansions is fine, but once you get past 4 or 5 (or 17) numbers become so inflated that the game begins to suffer from it (in my opinion, of course).

Like I said before, WoW is suffering from the exact same thing that killed off Live Everquest for most of us. I remember back in "Classic" when http://www.wowhead.com/item=21134 was the end-all of weapons. Now in the first or second quest in the new expansion anyone with half a brain gets http://cata.wowhead.com/item=57294 from a quest that take 90 seconds to complete.

I'm not bitching or anything, its just the nature of the beast I guess. I really wish developers would come up with ways to increase the power of your character and the difficulty of content that involves more than just adding to the level cap and making numbers bigger on items. I haven't played any of the other games like LoTR Online, Warhammer, AoC or even EQ2, but I'd imagine they all do the same thing.
I couldn't agree with you more.

It's hard for me to believe the developers that work for SOE, clap the dust off their hands, and ACTUALLY think they have created a great addition to a game.

All they are doing is adding more weight to an already sinking ship.

EQ was actually doing quite well up until Luclin. End game Luclin gear was largely +125 hps and admirable stats, but nothing outrageous (despite being classic + 3 expansions). PoP introduced gear that virtually doubled previous gear "caps."

This is something purely driven by financials, so I do not begrudge them (its a business), but surely they need to look out for the long-term viability of their product. Incremental steps, not exponential, because exponential breaks all content more than 1 or 2 expansions old.

All this to say, P99 isnt worried about trying to sell its next expansion, so P99 can focus on what it does best - recreate an experience for those of us tired of dumbing down of WoW and the engineered failure of MMO's in general

It is quite disgusting how underused some zones are there. I PLed a mage twink to 65 in about 2-3 hours. I was literally pulling 70% of the mobs in the hole, and AEing them at level 50. Was getting a few levels a pull.

They had "Hotzones" where you got more exp than regular ones, and with the exp rate i was spending about 30 minutes in these zones and gaining 15-20 levels.

As far as grinding 5000 aa's goes... i think i'll pass.

It is the nature of MMO's that if they are stagnant people lose interest, so you need to introduce more challenging content. More challenging content for all players, introducing better rewards otherwise it's not worth doing from a player's point of view. There was a nerf when they released the classic missions because people could use points earned to buy raid level loot. This upset the raiders quite a bit so they nerfed it.

Basically EQlive is a victim of its own longevity. Any game that's been going for 11 years will have a lot of trivial content that is never touched now. The smart thing to do would be to reintroduce that content in a stylish way. ( I for one loved the revamped lower guk / unrest / black burrow zones... didn't like CT... that zone sucked in classic!!!)

So yeah. This post turned out to be longer than i expected.

There was a small attempt at working with these small favorites about a year back, Monster Missions. An instance zone, pick your class out of the list and get sent in as a poorly geared lvl 50 in places like Lguk to kill some named for points/loot. Points over time could get you some real nice gear/augments.

About 2 years ago the beefed those zones to the 80+ range for a couple weeks , maybe it was a month. With the same name Critters and Loot except it was on steroids.

There have been no permanent changes though :/

How many total zones is EQ Live going to get up to with this newest expansion?

It must feel pretty pointless as a developer to create more and more zones and see the number of players drop all the time..

Well as I agree most everyone's point of view...

They came to this end gradually. A few more dmg on items every expansion, 25 more hp and mana on new items.. a few more spells.. etc

I'm sure if the devs jumped on a lvl 50 on emu99 it would be just as shocking to them to see what they've done to the game over the years.

regardless after seeing this : http://eq.magelo.com/profile/5389
