Default Monk vs Bard

Naked leveled a bard to 49, but also leveled a monk to 38 right after. Trying to decide which one to consolidate my wealth on and make the push to 60 with.

Neither class seems to be in short supply, so any suggestions besides "play what ya like!" ?

Few caveats, I was an SK on live, so pulling/fd splitting wasn't ever an issue. And the bard just felt like a subpar chanter/Resist Bot on raids. And as far as grouping on the bard as well, usually kept up 4 songs. So twisting doesn't bother me either.

I play and enjoy both classes. But I think I would prefer to have a level 60 bard over monk.
- More playstyle variety
- Selo's
- Can plvl others

Don't even get me started on Selo's - It's why I've mostly been soloing small spaces with the monk, been grinding the last 8 levels in HHK.

Seems like a lot more high-level monks than bards out there.

If you don't mind the busyness of twisting, then bards are way more versatile
and fun, IMO.

As far as spending your plat, that's easy, spend less on the bard. Planar gear, 500p for 5/55 rings, and you can level. BoH and GM are about 6k for the pair, or a sionachie's partisan and melodious truncheon if you want to keep it under 2k.

Now the monk, you can spend some plat on...fungi, haste, epic (or just do the epic), stave of shielding, plus all the low weight, high AC gear you can find.

Monks are actually gear dependent, unlike the bard. So if you are going to spend money, spend it on the monk where it'll actually improve your survivability or DPS.

Well right now the Bard only has instruments and hp rings. - Got about 9k to spend on him without stripping the monk.

Monk has IFS/FBSS/Cloak of Shadows, then the usual small stuff like cured silk/sarnak mask/hp rings. And yes I've seen a shit ton of monks....always with a fungi haha, which has made me stop to think about which one to play.

Not guilded, so the planar stuff isnt an option at the moment. But thanks for the options, looks like I'll focus on the bard.
