Exclamation Old MMO Vet, starting fresh!

Hey guys, I've been playing MMO's since Ultima Online when I was in middle school! I loved UO, was a legit PK. Dabbled around with Everquest classic when it came out. But switched to DAoC when that came out and that was my main for a looong time. I came back to EQ during Planes of Power and played a 33 gnome mage on the team-PvP server which I loved.

I just installed Titanium and everything is up and running. I've been reading a ton on the wiki and I cannot figure out what class I want to play. I'm a very good player. My first that I rolled was a bard since I've never played one and all I've read about them. He's lvl 8 now and I'm kinda bored with him. Especially with this 40% xp penalty.. I'll be in a group at crushbone (a good group btw) for a few hours and feel like I'm getting no where.. I dont want to AoE kite whole zones. I want to group and explore EQ.

What I want to get out of this game is exploration and adventure. I'm too old now (27 hehe [You must be logged in to view images. So I'm getting turned off from my bard. I'm feeling bored playing it and the 40% xp pen is a bigger turn off.

I look at every class and they all seem so much fun. But I would like to stick with 1 or 2. I made a lvl 5 shaman and really liked it but I didnt like playing barbarian anymore.

I want to play something good-aligned, since I'm doing my own sort of role playing. I had a mid-teens iskar necro on Mith Marr that I really enjoyed that I think would be a good class/race combo for me here but like I said I want to play a good-aligned charactor. I really enjoyed my gnome mage on Live, but the fact that you gotta resummon your pet here everytime you want full xp when soloing is a turn off. And its the same with enchanter pets too?

Maybe I'll re-roll a druid. I've played one into the 20s on live. Can do everything very self sufficient, I can solo or group when I want too.

I want to add I'm pro at CCing and Healing and support classes. My main was a Midgard Lvl 50 Healer in DAoC which was all CC+Healing. So a cleric could be cool, but watched some P99 videos of a cleric and it looked boring as well.

I'm finding it hard to narrow down one or two classes to play. I'm able to find something with them that I'm not really feeling. What do you guys think? Can anyone help someone get back into this great game?

I wouldn't recommend druid if you are hoping to group a lot. Enchanters are the go to for cc class, clerics for healing. Shamans are also a great support class with slows roots and buffs and are useful as healers in some level ranges especially at lvl 60 with torpor.

I am afraid with your complaint about the bard you don't quite have a perspective of just how slow xp is in eq. Settle in for a long ride even if you don't select a class with an xp penalty. Also note this penalty should go away when velious launches

Ya I guess WoW has conditioned us all that it only takes a month to blast through a game. I remember being in middle school thinking, it takes like 2 years to get lvl 50 in EQ and thought that was super epic!

it took me a few months of extremely casual play to get 50s here on p99; so if you play everyday or just more than the few hours I had (when/if I could log in that day) you'll be higher lvl much quicker than that.

There's plenty of awesomely nice people that will hand you starting equip, very skilled players that know things about this game that most don't & hundreds of others willing to group up & enjoy that level with you. Please don't be shy sending /tells to others close your level because some people will wait around for that invite instead of taking the initiative to make the group. Hope this helps! Alright. I'm kinda intrigued by kunark, maybe I coudnt fit a iskar shaman into my role-playing style. I made a dark elf cleric that in my mind isnt evil. But more along the lines of Shiva the hindu diety. The destroyer and the creator.

But I'm still very undecided about what to play lol.

Fiddle around with a couple chars and races to see how each handles.. Low levels go quickly so you can get a feel for each. I played a Shaman for 7 years with a couple others on live server including a bard and warrior. Now that I'm here, I've got a shaman of course, but also a chanter, bard and druid. It's taking me a while to do anything but I'm entertaining myself, and even got my wife to play EQ for the first time. It's kinda funny. Anyhow, play around and pick a main when you find what fits best.

The exp penalties will even out with your ability to solo on most classes. My alt is a druid and it is a lot of fun, especially on higher levels where I can't solo as a rogue anymore.
