Default Wizards starting with Shock of Frost

I made a 1st lvl Wizard today and one of my starting spells was Shock of Frost. I tried to mem it and it said "Your class can never lean shock of Frost." So at start I have no way of attacking creatures except with my dagger. I know alot has changed since classic but I am sure that at no point in the game did it ever have you start with a spell scroll that you could never use....

Here is a link to a wizards normal first level spells. The attack spells are cold based but none of them are called Shock of Frost. Frost Bolt is the correct spell it seems. Not Shock of Frost.

This is project1999. That's a modern site.

I am wondering then, if that is indeed the spell I should have, why will it not allow me to memorize it? I started with it in my inventory. When I try to memorize it , the game gives me the message:

"Your class can never memorize Shock of Frost."

I agree with you that this is the name of the classic version of the spell, however I start the game with it in my inventory and it wont let me memorize it....ever.... surely that is a mistake.

I have followed the set up guide to the letter. I read this post three times to make sure it did not refer to wizards starting with a spell they are unable to memorize. Could you please be more specific in how the problem I am having relates to the set up guide?

I have checked my install and it is clean. Would some one mind starting a new wizard to test this? I am interested to see if is just a problem with me alone or if this is a server wide bug.

Try reinstalling the http://www.project1999.org/files/eqchangesv3.zip again.

The problem with you not being able to mem your spell, is you have the wrong spells_us.txt file. The file defines spells/lvls/classes combos for the game, and don't try to edit it, unless you know what you are doing

I will look through my install today for that file and then make sure the one from project 1999 is the one I have. Thank you for directing me to the answer I needed. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
