Just staring out on red and wondering what some input would be on classes in pvp. I really only have blue server experience at the time being. From what I have gathered there is some what of a large difference between the two. Not even sure where to start.
Started a Wiz and a druid and currently playing them to around 6 or so, still have a while to go. What I heard is that melees have a severe disadvantage when starting fresh so im not sure whether to take the dive. Have been evaluating my choices before i push a character 10+. Interesting starting with no resources but fun none the less.

If you search the forums you'll find lots of discussion on this subject.
That said, play what you want and accept the fact that there's going to be a lot of nuance to Red99 that Blue doesn't have. Best approach is probably to play a class you like and feel it out. You can always reroll/twink another class at a later date and level up in a couple weeks.

melee honestly aren't bad at all starting out, easier than caster in a lot of ways. Priest probably easiest classes... priest or tank classes... then melee, then int caster. But later on with big mana pools and useful spells, casters get powerful... whereas a melee relies on gear upgrades to gain power and negate the power casters gain.
All of that said... it's a lot easier to survive and kill someone 1000hp vs 400hp... that's the comparison between an ogre/troll warrior/sk at 20ish vs a pure caster at 20ish... and without gear the caster won't even have mana to kill the melee most likely... but they can gate away at least? All of that aside, play what you enjoy. They are all fun (except maybe mage...) and get good and all need gear to be genuinely viable pvp because resists are king here. And pushing a character past 10 takes no time at all, just group up lol... you should have a general idea of what you like to play before coming here.
